TRAILS WE LOVE: Carrick Creek Trail šŸ’š

Waterfalls, mountain scenery, and a little rock-hopping? Yes, please!

Carrick Creek Trail at Table Rock State Park is a beautiful forest loop offering plenty of reasons to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

The approximately 2ā€“2.4-mile loop winds through the woods, crosses streams, and rewards hikers with cascading waterfallsā€”including the 15-foot Carrick Creek Falls near the beginning of the trail.

Did you know there's a hidden walking trail in Clemson that feels like you're next to a mountain stream?

Not enough people know about this peaceful little spot, so I brought my sidekick Angel šŸ• along to show you around!

Just off Berkeley Drive, behind Ashley Dearing Park, you'll find Tottie's Place, a beautiful wooded trail alongside a stream. It's shaded, quiet, and surprisingly secluded for being right in the middle of Clemson's neighborhoods.

And now there's even more to explore!

The City of Clemson recently completed the new Ashley Dearing Outfield Trail, which loops around the baseball field and connects with the park.

A few highlights:

- Shaded, paved trails that are easy for walking or rolling

- A beautiful stream and pedestrian bridges

- A little lending library and educational activities for kids

- A playground, restrooms, and baseball fields nearby

- About 3/4 of a mile if you combine both loops

Where to start: Park at Ashley Dearing Park on Berkeley Drive. I recommend entering Tottie's Place through the gate near the park.

And there's more coming! By early 2027, these trails will connect to the new Berkeley Orchard trails and Berkeley Drive Green Crescent Trail.

Here's our suggestion: Find 30 minutes this week to take a walk. Explore a section of the Green Crescent Trail, revisit a favorite path, or discover somewhere new.

šŸ¾ TRAIL REVIEW: Tottieā€™s Place, according to TikšŸ¾

What makes a great trail? Tik has a few criteria.

Good smells? āœ”ļø
Plenty to explore? āœ”ļø
Friends along the way? āœ”ļø
A nice path for getting those steps in? āœ”ļøāœ”ļø

We may be a little biased, but Tik seems to agree: Tottieā€™s Place is a pretty great spot for a walk. And with its connection to Ashley Dearing Park, itā€™s also another piece of the growing Green Crescent Trail network.

Grab the leash, get outside and see what your four-legged trail critic thinks.

Something big is taking shape along Berkeley Drive in Clemson, and itā€™s more than a wider sidewalk.

The City of Clemson is building a 1.5-mile multi-use path between Frontage Road and Issaqueena Trail, widening the existing sidewalk along Berkeley Drive from about 4.5 feet to 10 feet. The project also includes enhanced crosswalks, ADA improvements, drainage work, parking improvements at Ashley Dearing Park, and a brand-new 4.36-acre Berkeley Orchard Park.

The new park is planned to include Rock Creek access, native landscaping, decorative fruit trees, reflection areas, nature play, benches, drinking-water features, and more.

For us, the exciting part is how all of this fits together. The Berkeley Drive corridor will connect into existing portions of the Green Crescent Trail and help build toward a larger network vision linking Clemsonā€™s city parks with Clemson University and, eventually, Nettles Park, Patrick Square, Pendleton, and Central.

This is a City of Clemson project, and itā€™s a good example of how trail networks grow: one useful connection at a time.

Building community, one wheelbarrow at a time. šŸŒ±

This past Saturday, volunteers traded a few hours of their weekend for wheelbarrows, shovels, mulch and a little sweat during the Pendleton Day of Service, organized by our friends at Pendleton Pride in Motion.

Among the projects? Fresh mulch along sections of the Hall Trail, part of the Green Crescent Trail network. It wasnā€™t glamorous work, but thatā€™s kind of the point. Thereā€™s something special about showing up with your own time and two hands to make a corner of your community better.

You work alongside neighbors. You meet people you might not otherwise meet. And when the work is done, youā€™ve built more than a better trail. šŸ’š

THANK YOU to Pendleton Pride in Motion and every volunteer who showed up and got their hands dirty. The trail looks greatā€”and so does the community behind it.

Hello, fall! Weā€™ve been waiting for you.

The temps are finally starting to drop a little, which means itā€™s a great time to get outside and enjoy the Green Crescent Trail.

Take a walk after dinner. Bring the dog. Meet a friend. Hop on your bike. Or just give yourself 30 minutes to get outside, move a little, and enjoy the change of season.

And while the leaves may not look quite like this yetā€¦ we know whatā€™s coming. šŸ

Wherever you join the trail in Clemson, Central, or Pendleton, get out there and enjoy the cooler weather. Weā€™ll see you on the trail!
