Red Ribbon Week
It's time to show our commitment to making healthy choices and living drug-free! Tarkington ISD will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 26–29, and we have some fun dress-up days planned for our students!

This year's message is simple: Be Kind. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.

Here's how students can join in the fun:

Monday, October 26-Put a Lid on Drugs!
Wear your favorite hat!

Tuesday, October 27-Futures So Bright!
Wear neon colors or your favorite shades!

Wednesday, October 28- Crazy Sock Day!
Stand up to drugs by wearing your craziest socks!

Thursday, October 29- Say BOO to Drugs!

PreK–5th Grade: Dress as your favorite book character! Be sure to bring a book that goes with your character.

6th–12th Grade: Wear your favorite fall or Halloween T-shirt! Shirts may not be scary or cover your face.

We can't wait to see our Longhorns showing off their Red Ribbon Week spirit! Let's have some fun while reminding our students that the choices they make today help shape their future.

Student Voices, Stronger Leaders!

Yesterday, Dr. O'Brien met with students from Tarkington Middle School and Tarkington High School for the first Superintendent's Student Advisory Council meeting of the school year!

The afternoon was all about leadership, communication, and giving our students a voice in their schools. We kicked things off by talking about what makes a good leader and the qualities that help leaders make a positive difference. Students also completed a personality assessment to learn more about themselves, their strengths, and how different personalities can work together.

Then it was time to hear from our students! Through our Celebrate, Consider, Create activity, students shared things they love about their campuses, areas they feel could use some attention or improvement, and new ideas they would like to see brought to life.

One of the best parts of these meetings is hearing directly from our students and seeing things through their eyes. Their ideas, perspectives, and willingness to be part of the conversation are what make this council so valuable.

We look forward to working with this group throughout the school year as they continue growing as leaders and helping make Tarkington ISD an even better place to learn and grow!

Celebrating Our Principals! October is Principal Appreciation Month, and at Monday night's Board Meeting, we took a moment to recognize three special individuals who lead our campuses with dedication, compassion, and a heart for students.

Being a principal means wearing a lot of hats, making some tough decisions, celebrating victories big and small, and always keeping students at the heart of what you do.

Our principals work tirelessly to support their teachers and staff, encourage their students, and create schools where learning and growth happen every day.

We are thankful for their leadership, their dedication, and the countless ways they make a difference across Tarkington ISD.

TMS FCA Students Attend Fields of Faith!

On Wednesday, October 21, members of our Tarkington Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) traveled to Splendora High School Stadium for the annual Fall Fields of Faith event!

Students enjoyed an evening of food, games, fellowship, and time with friends from surrounding communities. The event also included worship, prayer, student testimonies, and a message about fully trusting the Lord.

We are especially proud of two of our TMS students who took part in the evening's program! 6th grader Dante Vargas opened the event with prayer, and 8th grader Addy Magee shared her favorite Bible verse along with a personal testimony about overcoming fear and negative emotions.

What a special opportunity for our students to come together with others from neighboring communities, build friendships, and share their faith!

This week’s National Principals Month spotlight is on Dr. Mary Lariviere, Principal of Tarkington Middle School!

Dr. Lariviere wants every student to know that the decisions she makes for TMS are made with a great deal of thought and heart. Leadership is not always easy, and she spends a lot of time working through challenges and looking for solutions because she genuinely wants Tarkington Middle School to be a great place for every student who walks through its doors.

What makes her proudest are often the little moments. Seeing students and teachers smiling, laughing, learning, and genuinely connecting with one another reminds her that something meaningful is being built at TMS. She is proud to help create a campus where students feel supported, teachers feel valued, and people enjoy being part of the school community.

Something people may be surprised to learn about Dr. Lariviere is just how reflective she is as a leader. She often replays difficult conversations and decisions, wondering what she could have done differently or better. For her, that reflection comes from caring deeply about people and continually wanting to grow, both as a leader and as a person.

We are grateful for the thoughtfulness, care, and dedication Dr. Lariviere brings to Tarkington Middle School each day.

Celebrating Our Students of Character! At last night's Board Meeting, we had the pleasure of recognizing some outstanding Longhorns as our Students of Character!

These students were selected for demonstrating positive character, making good choices, and setting a great example for others. We are proud of the way they represent their campuses and Tarkington ISD!

Farm Fresh October continues as students engage with locally sourced food products from Texas.

Today's featured ingredient is rice from Douget's Rice Milling Company, established by Darby Doguet in 1981 and situated in Beaumont, Texas.

Texas holds the fifth position nationally in rice production. The upper Texas coast comprises the primary location for the state's rice production and milling operations. The Texas Rice Belt serves significant environmental and agricultural functions within the coastal prairie ecosystem. Approximately 60% of Texas rice production originates from Colorado, Wharton, and Matagorda counties.
