Today we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, Black history, Black joy, and resilience.
It is also a reminder that freedom delayed was freedom denied, and that the work of justice is far from finished.
May today be a celebration, a reflection, and a recommitment to building a future where freedom is real for everyone.

Ohioans should not be stuck with Big Tech’s electric bill.
Today, Senator Kent Smith and I joined legislators from five other states to meet with PJM, the organization that manages the electric grid across much of the Midwest and Northeast.
We met because the explosive growth of data centers is already putting significant strain on the electric grid and driving up costs for consumers. Without action, Ohio families and businesses could be left paying for infrastructure upgrades needed to serve some of the wealthiest corporations in the world.
We are pushing to ensure those costs are borne by the data centers that create them, not by ratepayers.
Ohio already has hundreds of data centers, with many more proposed, yet the state has not passed legislation specifically addressing their impact on ratepayers, taxpayers, natural resources, or local communities.
The pace of development is accelerating, and Ohio cannot afford to wait until the consequences show up on electric bills and in our communities. We need safeguards in place now to protect consumers and ensure these corporations cover the costs they create.

Big shout out to all the pages and all the staff who stuck with us and work around the clock to make sure that our state runs… even when sometimes the legislature is dysfunctional, they are absolutely not! Jo
