Great Lakes, shared responsibility. 🌊

Joined legislators from the U.S. and Canada in Marquette, Michigan, to tackle invasive species, PFAS, harmful mining practices, and protecting our water as data centers expand.

These waters don’t stop at the border. Neither can our work to protect them.

Congratulations to Ohio’s Paula Hicks-Hudson, our incoming caucus chair; Ontario’s Jennifer French, our first Canadian vice chair; and Ohio’s Elgin Rogers, our executive committee member!

And thank you to Jesse Leinhardt for leading the caucus’s work and bringing us together!

Ohio lawmakers want utility companies to pay customers back for some lengthy outages. Here's how the bill would work. See link below ⬇️

Proud to stand with Cleveland Clinic workers as they go on strike! Cleveland Clinic

We called them essential as they worked through dangerous, exhausting conditions during the pandemic. For too many, those conditions still haven’t improved. Now the Clinic wants to strip away their bargaining rights.

These workers deserve dignity, safe working conditions, and a voice on the job. We called them essential. It’s time we treated them that way.

When the power goes out, families shouldn’t be left paying for spoiled food and lifesaving medicine. Rep. David Thomas and I are introducing the bipartisan Ohio Power Outage Relief Act to require utilities to help cover those losses, with costs paid by the companies, not passed back to customers.

One thing I’m proud we got done: passing measures to better protect Ohio families’ SNAP benefits from organized crime rings.

Last year, Rep. Kellie Deeter and I introduced HB 163 to move Ohio’s food assistance cards to more secure chip technology, the same basic protection people expect from their bank cards. We worked to get those protections passed as part within a larger package of laws.

This Wall Street Journal investigation, which includes my perspective, shows why that work matters. Criminals are exploiting outdated cards to steal grocery money from families already struggling to make ends meet.

Protecting SNAP means protecting the people who depend on it, and making sure public dollars put food on their tables.

Thieves have exploited antiquated magnetic stripes on benefits cards to steal hundreds of millions of public dollars.

When the power goes out, you shouldn’t be left paying for a fridge full of spoiled food and ruined medicine.

Our bipartisan Ohio Power Outage Reimbursement Act would let families recover those costs after qualifying outages, paid for by the utility, without passing the cost back to customers.

Your utility should be accountable for the service you pay for.

Power outages have become a persistent problem for customers of FirstEnergy and Cleveland Public Power and now state lawmakers are pushing to make energy companies pay for it.

Pretty special to be back at my alma mater, Cleveland State University, this time talking with students about how environmental and energy policy actually gets made in Ohio.

We talked about my path from CSU to the Statehouse, how the legislative process really works, and then dug into HB 303, our bipartisan community energy bill, including what it would do, why it matters, and what it takes to move a bill like this forward.

The students came prepared with thoughtful questions and a real interest in both the policy and the politics behind it.

Always good to be back at Cleveland State University and even better to see the next generation digging into Ohio’s energy future. 💚⚡
