🇺🇸 SEPTEMBER 11 — WE MUST NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸
September 11, 2001 is not simply a date in a history book for me.
I was serving in the United States Navy aboard USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37) in Hawaii. We were in port, and I was on duty as the section leader.
It was just after 3:00 in the morning in Hawaii when America was attacked.
Like so many who were serving that night, I watched what was happening and quickly realized that the world we had known only hours earlier was gone.
That day changed everything. Forever.
It changed our military.
It changed our national security.
It changed the lives of millions of military families.
And it began a period of war and sacrifice that would define an entire generation of American service members.
Thousands of Americans went to work that morning and never came home.
Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, military personnel, first responders, and ordinary citizens demonstrated extraordinary courage.
And in the days, months, and years that followed, another generation of Americans raised their right hands, put on the uniform, deployed around the world, and answered the call.
Many came home carrying wounds that could be seen.
Many more came home carrying wounds that could not.
Some never came home at all.
Today, at Life Change, we work every day with Veterans and their families. We see firsthand that the consequences of military service do not end when a deployment ends, when someone leaves active duty, or when the headlines move on to something else.
For thousands of Veterans, the story of September 11 and the wars that followed is still being lived today.
That is one of the reasons we must never forget.
Never forget those who were murdered on September 11, 2001.
Never forget those who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape it.
Never forget those who answered America's call afterward.
Never forget those who gave their lives.
Never forget the Veterans who returned home forever changed.
And never forget the families who carried the burden alongside them.
I can still remember standing duty aboard USS CROMMELIN in those early morning hours in Hawaii and realizing that something had fundamentally changed.
Twenty-five years later, that memory has not faded.
It should never fade.
Remember the fallen.
Honor the sacrifice.
Take care of those who served.
🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 🇺🇸
