yesterday day, District staff welcomed local, congressional, and regional leaders for a tour of the Baldwin Creek Dell Haven Basin near York Road in the .

this basin was constructed to capture and temporarily store stormwater runoff from approximately 190 acres within the Baldwin Creek Watershed, significantly reducing downstream flooding risks affecting local roadways, homes, and businesses during heavy rain events.

the District received $2-million in Congressionally Directed Spending/Community Project Funding (also known as earmarks) towards this nearly $6-million project. another great example of federal resources and robust local leadership making a difference in our service area.

Congressman Miller, USEPA Regional Administrator Vogel, OEPA Administrator Emerman, Mayor DeGeeter, and Mr. Sulik, as well as Parma Councilmembers Divis and Shuman who both represent the Dell Haven/West Pleasant Valley neighborhoods were all in attendance.

sewers are time machines.

they can take you back to the 1970s or 1870s. they are built to last into an unknown future. they connect eras, areas, and innovations.

good morning from the inside of a trickling filter.

our Westerly Trickling Filters (WTF for short) are three tall domed tanks of stacked filter media that pump water to the top of these rotating arms so it cascades through the filters on its way to the bottom. it’s a unique 1990s treatment process not featured at our two other plants.

learning doesn’t just happen at a desk.

as part of our annual Summer Intern Tour, District interns got the opportunity to explore our Westerly Treatment Plant, Superior Avenue Pump Station, and lab, along with live demonstrations of electrofishing, beach sampling, and a stop at our Edgewater overflow outfall.

one day. multiple sites. countless learning opportunities. and based on the questions and conversations along the way, our interns are excited to get to work this summer.
