In an era marked by increasing polarization, sociopolitical unrest, and challenges to bodily autonomy, counseling professionals are called to respond with both ethical clarity and cultural responsiveness. Feminist counseling theory offers a powerful framework for understanding the interplay between personal distress and systemic oppression, while equipping clinicians with tools to promote empowerment, intersectional awareness, and advocacy in the therapy room and beyond.
This interactive workshop explores the core tenets of feminist counseling theory and how they can be applied to current events in the United States, including the rollback of reproductive rights, racial and gender-based violence, LGBTQ+ legislation, economic inequity, and political trauma. Participants will examine the relevance of feminist approaches to clinical work, discuss case examples, and explore strategies for integrating activism, reflexivity, and client empowerment into ethical and effective practice.
