Two weeks ago, the CPC approved a resolution to pause CDP’s use of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), starting January 1. Before their use resumes, the CPC must agree on how they should be used, approve an updated policy with input from residents and experts, and review vendor contracts to ensure they align with that policy.

We want to know:

A former Akron police officer is under investigation for allegedly misusing Flock license plate readers.

Applications are now open for the CPC’s 2026–2027 Community Grant Program.

If your organization works to prevent violence, resolve conflicts, or promote healing in Cleveland, we encourage you to apply for funding, which helps support community-based violence prevention, restorative justice, or mediation programs.

The CPC will select up to 20 grantees, each of which will receive two years of funding rather than the single year offered in previous cycles.

Applications are due October 31 at 11:59 p.m. All required documents must be uploaded at the time of submission.

Does everyone know what the Civilian Police Review Board (CPRB) does, what its duties are, and how it differs from the Community Police Commission (CPC)?
At this meeting, CPRB will review findings from Office of Professional Standards (OPS) investigations into complaints against officers, determine whether misconduct occurred, and recommend discipline when appropriate.
If someone believes the outcome of a complaint does not adequately address officer misconduct, they can request a review by the CPC. The Accountability Committee reviews cases to determine whether they should move forward to an evidentiary hearing before the full commission. A request for review does not automatically result in a hearing.
Following an evidentiary hearing, the CPC can order increased discipline, order discipline where none was imposed, or leave the existing disciplinary outcome in place.
We are working on a Citizen’s Guide to Evidentiary Hearings to explain this process, but in the meantime, do you have any questions?

Members of the CPC’s Outreach Committee recently joined City of Cleveland employees for an after-school community event focused on supporting Cleveland’s youth and building stronger connections in the community.

Commissioner Miller reflected on the experience:

“As a member of the Outreach Committee, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the City of Cleveland’s after-school community event. I was grateful to participate, spend time with our young people, and contribute to an afternoon focused on community, connection, and positive engagement.”

Being present in the community is an important part of our work. These moments are another example of the Outreach Committee’s commitment to staying engaged and connected with the people we serve.

Tonight's Rules Committee meeting has been canceled. Instead, the Committee will hold a special meeting between now and the next Full Commission meeting to approve the collaborative discipline review process it has been developing with the Accountability Committee, as well as an updated version of the Evidentiary Hearing Manual, so that we can move forward with holding another evidentiary hearing.
