Re:Source Cleveland Re:Source Cleveland serves international newcomers as they build lives in Greater Cleveland. Each year 1,300 to 1,900 refugees settle in Ohio.

Since 2007, Cuyahoga County has welcomed over 850 refugees from countries including Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, Ukraine, Russia and Iraq. Refugees legally enter the U.S. seeking freedom, peace and opportunity for themselves and their families. After resettlement, they start new lives with limited resources transitioning from their past and the lives they once knew. Through targeted research and extensive involvement within Northeast Ohio’s resettled refugee community, The Refugee Response recognizes newcomers both need and seek assistance with English language, basic cultural orientation and employment training in order to become self-sufficient, contributing members of their new communities.

For 16 years, our youth programs have built deep roots with the families we serve.

This week we hosted an open house for parents and kids in our youth mentoring and Corner 65 programs. Watching parents see what their kids had created and accomplished was nothing short of magic. The pride in the room said it all.

Every one of our youth programs is free. We also provide transportation for every young person we serve.

That matters. Families stretching to make ends meet each month are being priced out of quality afterschool arts, enrichment, and sports. Many of the parents we work with put in long hours and don’t have a car. We make sure their kids still get a seat at the table.

This is what radical equity looks like for Cleveland’s newcomer families. We show up for it every day.

We are fortunate to be on the campus of Urban Community School - Cleveland, Ohio where the access to facilities and safe spaces makes this all happen.

Re:Source Cleveland is proud to provide a donated GMC truck to Obedi through the Wheels to Work Program!

Obedi and his family immigrated to Cleveland from Burundi in 2015. Since then, Re:Source Cleveland has been a big part of his life through our educational and sports programs—a place he has always called home.

After graduating from high school, Obedi attended trade school and developed skills in construction and carpentry.
He is now starting a new job with Independence Construction, and this truck will help support him as he begins his career.

Obedi shared his gratitude, saying:
“This organization has been a big part of my life since I was a kid. They were there for me and my family when we needed support. I encourage everyone to get involved, volunteer, and support their programs.”

We’re so proud of Obedi and excited to see what comes next! Wishing him success in his new job and this next chapter

We were proud to join our friends in the Congolese Community of Greater Cleveland to celebrate the induction of the newly elected Community Chief Mr. Dieudonne Simbi. We look forward to working alongside of Mr Simbi for his coming term and ensuring that each and every community member has the means and opportunity to thrive in Greater Cleveland.

Close to 600 guests joined us at Ohio City Farm on September 26 for our annual benefit. As always, the food was at the heart of the evening. 17 chefs, food and beverage vendors shared dishes from around the world and showed everyone why Cleveland's food scene is one of a kind. And our friends at Cleveland Bay Branch urban farm provided the floral wearables for the evening.

Our city is richer because of the people who bring their families, traditions, and recipes here. Celebrating them is what Re:Source Cleveland is all about.

8 of this year's vendors use the commercial kitchen at Ohio City Farm, sell their products in the Glick Farm Store, or both. You can support them year round by visiting the store at 2304 Bridge Ave. 🌿

Potentially thousands of lawful non-citizens in Cuyahoga County and even more across the state of Ohio have lost Medicaid coverage. Information on this is included here from our local JFS teams at Cuyahoga County. If you are a lawful non-citizen who has lost coverage of want to understand if you are eligible please visit the Cuyahoga County Welcome Center where JFS, Smart Development Inc. and Re:Source Cleveland staff are able to assist during certain hours.

On Sept 26th, at our annual benefit, we celebrated two people who mean so much to Re:Source Cleveland.

Congratulations to Olena Shtogryn, this year's Community West Foundation Peter Schindler Youth Leadership Award recipient. The first time Olena spoke to a room of educators, she was nervous. Afterward she told us, "I really liked this! I didn't know I would like answering their questions so much!" Today she is a student at Cleveland State University and a founding leader of the Global Inclusion Student Alliance, a community she helped build for students with refugee and immigrant backgrounds.

And the Key to Ohio City Farm went to the one and only Tom Gill. As our board chair starting in 2013, Tom helped build the foundation of this organization. He helped make our home on the Urban Community School - Cleveland, Ohiol campus a reality, where 20 scholars from the newcomer families we serve now attend school and our kids have a safe place to play and grow. Around our office, we still ask, "What would Tom do?"
