Re:Source Cleveland serves international newcomers as they build lives in Greater Cleveland. Each year 1,300 to 1,900 refugees settle in Ohio.
Since 2007, Cuyahoga County has welcomed over 850 refugees from countries including Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, Ukraine, Russia and Iraq. Refugees legally enter the U.S. seeking freedom, peace and opportunity for themselves and their families. We're still feeling the energy from Saturday's Parade the Circle! Alongside staff and volunteers, 70 young people from Re:Source's Youth Mentoring and Corner65 programs participated in this vibrant Cleveland tradition, after designing and creating animal masks, costumes, drums, and a float for the day. 🦚
When asked if they'd like to participate again, the answer was a resounding "YES!"
We're extending our gratitude to and the CMA Community Arts Studio at the Pivot Center for making our participation possible, and all of the mentors, volunteers, artists, and staff who supported us on parade day and throughout the past several months of preparation.

New graduates and staff from our Teen Response program at John Marshall had a fun day at Swings-N-Things celebrating the end of the year and start of summer. A well-earned chance to relax and play!
100 work authorization renewal applications filed in one day, thanks to our friends at ! 📋💪
Until last December, work authorizations for lawful noncitizens were valid for 5 years, with an automatic 540-day extension during the renewal process. After changes made at the end of last year, authorizations now last only 18 months for refugees and asylees and just 12 months for those in the US under Humanitarian Parole or Temporary Protected Status. There is no longer an automatic extension for those waiting for their renewal applications to be processed. With help from the team at MJB, and a lot of advance preparation by our team of Swahili-speaking navigators, we were able to get 100 applications successfully filed at once—with real impact in our community.
Thank you, MJB!

As graduation season comes to an end, we want to recognize each student and family who has reached this important milestone, achieving something that might have felt daunting or even impossible a few years ago. As a newcomer student, high school has more than the usual set of challenges. But with perseverance and access to the right support, we know our students can succeed!
Re:Source's Teen Response program exists to provide that support to newcomer high school students as they work toward the goal of graduation. We walk alongside students and families, providing academic and literacy support on site at high schools in Cleveland and Parma, continuing education through the summer, and ensuring that no newcomer student feels alone when they arrive at school. As they reach graduation, students transition to our Post-Secondary Bridges program for whatever journey comes next.
Congratulations, graduates!

"We've been able to extend employment into the winter for those on our team who wanted it, and hired three new team members this year to support those added kitchen and retail operations year-round," said Rachel Ramos, Re:Source Marketing & Communications Manager. "We have been dreaming about having a brick and mortar for a long time."

Parma students, you did it! Congratulations to each of our graduation seniors from Valley Forge and Normandy High School on successfully completing your high school journeys. Re:Source staff was so proud to celebrate with you and your families and wish you well as you move into adulthood and continue toward the bright futures ahead of you. We were so inspired by the senior speech given by Teen Response student Gulsom, who came to Cleveland from Afghanistan and quickly became part of our Teen Response family. Bravo to all of these young people for their achievements!
