Unfortunately, many of Ohio’s native lady beetles have become very rare, and this is alarming as these insects provide important pest control in both commercial crops and home gardens. The Buckeye Lady Beetle Blitz survey provides critical information about their status and identifies what garden management practices and surrounding landscape elements help to support remining populations.

A workshop will be hosted at the Cleveland Roots Greenhouse classroom from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19th. At the training, there will be a presentation about 2025 findings and information participants need to collect data in summer 2026. Participants must attend the training to collect data as part of the survey and are limited to one toolkit each.

This training is free and open to the community, but registration is REQUIRED. You do not have to be an MGV to take part. For more information, here is a “vintage” video about the survey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQFYLIlCBTs.
