This beautiful Red-headed Woodpecker on our feeders was captured by , Natural Resources Manager. You can spot a Red-headed Woodpecker by its crimson head, a snow-white body, and half white, half inky black wings.
According to the Cornell Lab, Red-headed Woodpeckers don’t act like most other woodpeckers: they catch insects in the air, and they eat lots of acorns and beech nuts, often hiding extra food in trees for later. 😔Sadly, this species has declined severely in the past half-century because of habitat loss and changes to its food supply. You can help by adding native plants to your yard and supplying feed during the winter months!
