🏛️ SOUTH EUCLID CITY COUNCIL RECAP | OCTOBER 26, 2026
There was a lot of positive news coming out of Monday night’s City Council meeting! From supporting small businesses and investing in our neighborhoods to infrastructure improvements and community events, here are some important updates for South Euclid residents.
💼 $250,000 SMALL BUSINESS LOAN FUND PROPOSED
I’m excited to announce that Mayor Welo and I will be co-sponsoring legislation to establish a $250,000 revolving loan fund to support small businesses in South Euclid!
This program would provide qualifying local businesses with access to financing for improvements, equipment, expansion and other business needs. As loans are repaid, those funds would become available to help additional businesses.
This initiative also honors the work and vision of former Ward 2 Councilman Joe Frank, who advocated for programs that strengthen our local economy.
The legislation is expected to be introduced November 9, with the goal of launching the program in 2027, subject to Council approval and final program development.
📋 LEGISLATION PASSED | 3 ORDINANCES APPROVED
Council approved three ordinances, each by a 6–0 vote:
✅ Ordinance 25-26: Rezones two parcels associated with the existing Taco Bell parking lot from residential to Mixed-Use Transit-Oriented Development. This aligns the zoning with the surrounding commercial area. Importantly, this change does not approve a specific development project.
✅ Ordinance 45-26: Amends the 2026 City budget to address Police Department appropriations and provide additional funding for stump grinding and tree planting at North Quarry Park. The total General Fund budget increase is $4,200.
✅ Ordinance 46-26: Authorizes payment of $7,760 to Sedgwick Claims Management Services, the City’s third-party workers’ compensation administrator. The Finance Department confirmed that sufficient funds were available when the expense was incurred.
💰 CITY FINANCES REMAIN STRONG
Our September financial report included several encouraging updates:
• City revenue increased approximately $1.8 million compared to last year.
• Income-tax collections increased approximately $1.5 million.
• The City’s fund balance increased approximately $1.5 million.
• Previously delayed county property-tax distributions have been received.
While expenses have also increased, the additional costs discussed were included in the City’s budget.
🌳 QUARRY DOG PARK & NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENTS
The dangerous and unhealthy trees at Quarry Dog Park have been removed, and the park has reopened. Stump grinding is scheduled, new trees are expected to be planted in November, and replacement fencing has been ordered.
For Maywood residents, tree-lawn w**d removal has been completed, with topsoil and hydroseeding planned for spring.
Our City Engineer also announced plans to bring tree planting back into future road improvement projects, with residents having the opportunity to choose whether they want a tree.
🏆 SOUTH EUCLID RECOGNIZED!
Our Economic Development and Housing Departments received a First Suburbs residential visionary award recognizing South Euclid’s housing and neighborhood investment efforts.
The City highlighted approximately 160 new homes built through developments and infill construction, with additional housing opportunities ahead.
Congratulations also to Mayor Welo on receiving the 2026 First Suburbs Visionary Legacy Award!
🎄 LIGHT UP SOUTH EUCLID!
Council President Pro Tem Chanell Ivy and I are working with OneSouthEuclid on a new holiday decorating competition!
Residents will have opportunities to decorate their homes or porches, participate in different categories and compete for prizes. More information will be coming soon!
🌶️ CHILI COOK-OFF | SUPPORTING OUR SENIORS!
Get ready for some friendly competition! This Thursday, October 29, South Euclid will participate in the Community Partnership on Aging Chili Cook-Off!
Come out, enjoy some great chili, and cast your vote for South Euclid! 🏆
Even more importantly, this event raises money to support senior programs and essential needs that traditional government funding may not cover.
It’s a fun opportunity to support our older residents, celebrate community partnerships, and show some South Euclid pride!

These are important issues that deserve careful review, clear communication and community involvement as decisions move forward.
South Euclid continues to move forward!
My focus remains on strengthening our neighborhoods, supporting our businesses, improving infrastructure and creating a safe, welcoming and vibrant community for families.
Thank you to everyone who attended, participated and continues to stay involved. Together, we can continue building a stronger South Euclid!
