FARMERS: Buy at least 2 of these (2.5 gallon pressurized water extinguishers) and keep them on hand.

Explanation:

Many of you are out there working the fields as hard as you can with some pretty high-dollar equipment. We know the 2.5 lb. red ABC-style fire extinguisher is in most combine cabs. ADDITIONALLY, we would suggest that farmers keep at least two of these 2.5-gallon pressurized water extinguishers on hand when it comes to putting out class A solids to include: straw, dust and grit, wood, building materials, vegetation and similar.

These are the superior fire extinguisherson those cases because they both smother AND cool. DO NOT USE THESE FOR ELECTRICAL OR FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS FIRES. Use the red extinguishers labeled "ABC" for those types of f fires. We know of two combines this year that our members have saved using these water extinguishers because they've had them with them in a personal vehicle, or the farmer they're working with had them mounted on the combine. It's something that can knock a fire down quickly and early, or at least reset it until we can get there.

There is some sense that needs to be involved here: a big fire, a hot fire, get away, please. Stove top grease fire, a rechargeable battery powered tool or electronics, or similar, then use the red ABC type extinguisher. If it's still in a smoldering phase or just getting started, and you can use an extinguisher safely - which means the right type of fire, you have an escape route available to you, and aren't standing in smoke or any flammable liquid that's draining, put one of the water cans to work.

We are also happy to visit a farm and give a demonstration, or have you stop by the fire station, and we'll show you how to put one to work. You can email [email protected], and we'll respond to set something up.

This is NOT an endorsement for Parts Counter. I just happen. They are one of many sources, and we use the Buckeye and Amerex brands, as they are what we carry.

Buy the Buckeye 2.5 gallon water fire extinguisher–UL rated 2-A for Class A fires. Ideal for paper, wood, and fabric fires. Ships fast from Parts Counter.

Battalion One was pleased to assist with the stereotypic rescue of a cat from a tree today. While this may seem frivolous, it was a precarious situation for the cat, who was at least 45' up. Firefighters decided that it would have been significantly injured or perished would have if it had tried to negotiate is easy down. What resulted was some really great training with the ladder truck, and, with the proper safety precautions in place a rescued kitty.

Captain Tony Robinson made "the grab" while Firefighter Trace Cox assisted. Lieutenant Cole Horton applied a steady hand to the ladder controls while Firefighter Landon Boudreaux . We are quite pleased to say all ended well. Upon being returned to Earth, the cat made a bee-line for it's food after it was was reunited with its owners.

A side note: this is not typically a call that we run, but given the potential for harm, the training value to be had, and the ability to execute safely, it led to the decision to render aid in this instance.

Battalion One Firefighters were called to the area behind Quality Steel for a brush fire. This is the third time that members had visited this location today. This fire is a controlled burn, but dry conditions allowed it to escape and burn adjacent vegetation. Battalion One's responsibility was to keep fire from threatening stored equipment and materials owned by businesses along Highway 61. The land owner was on scene monitoring the fire and had disced around the fire and taken reasonable precautions - including staying in scene to help member navigate through there difficult terrain. In this instance, members were on scene from approximately 22:15 until midnight, extinguishing hotspots such that there was no overnightm threat to property or businesses. Members here are shown refilling Squad 1 with water before they disappeared off into the brush to extinguish yet another part of the fire.
