Last week a group of students from Shaker Heights high school visited the Cultural Gardens. Each student chose a specific Garden to explore and learn about the culture it represents. Many of the Gardens had a representative on hand to give personal background about the Garden, culture, and their ethnic community here in Northeast Ohio. This is part of a class project that the students then have to give a formal presentation on what they learned. This has become an annual event that the Cultural Gardens look forward to every spring.

We can't strew rose petals, but the historic walkways among the Cleveland Cultural Gardens would be a beautiful place to walk with your family this Mother's Day!

The Greek Cultural Garden was granted a place in Rockefeller Park in 1930, but the fundraising, design, and construction took a decade to complete. The original site plan was designed by Maurice Cornell, Landscape Architect; S. Clyde Merrell, Architect; and Andrew A. Tagaris, Sculptor. It was submitted to and approved by the City of Cleveland in 1937 and construction began shortly thereafter.

The original “Grading and Construction Plan for the Greek Cultural Garden” from 1937 is posted below. Zoom in for detail!
