The greater Cleveland chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America

Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.

This book discusses the intricate connections between the prison industrial complex and the state of immigrant justice in our country, and argues that in order to reach true justice for immigrants, we must also abolish the prison system as we know it.

Session 5 will cover Chapter 7: Abolitionist Approaches to System Change and Chapter 8: Beyond “Abolish ICE”.

Happy Juneteenth, America!

This year on Juneteenth, we look back across history and find it very much still with us.

This is a day of celebration, but also of memory.

Cleveland DSA's Black and Brown Alliance wants to remind all of us that history is not past, it is present in more ways than one.

250 years of history. Of pain. Of struggle. Of victory. Of loss. Black Americans carry all of it with them everyday. Still they persevere; they flourish. They fight for a future worth believing in. They rise.

Frederick Douglass asks the eternal question: "What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July?"

250 years later, we still are waiting for an answer. Meanwhile, we will celebrate. We will experience joy.
