Today, students in Ms. Landsman's class had an opportunity to explore the Potomac River! They viewing plankton, trawled for fish, and tested water quality. They discovered how living things depend on one another and how runoff can affect the river and the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Fourth graders in Mrs. Hawa's class took their science learning to the Potomac River. Students explored how living things depend on one another, viewed plankton, and trawled for fish. They also learned how watersheds and runoff affect the river and the Chesapeake Bay.

Working in small groups, students tested water quality and used scientific tools to draw conclusions about the riverā€™s health. It was a hands-on day of teamwork, investigation, and learning how our everyday actions can help protect local waterways.

It starts with showing up. Daily routines at home help students build the academic skills and real-world habits they need to thrive. Here's how you can help:

- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine
- Pack bags and pick outfits the night before
- Talk through any school worries with a teacher, school counselor, or other parents
- Make a backup plan for getting to school if something comes up
- Schedule trips and appointments outside school hours when possible

Showing up is the first step to thriving academically, and parents play a crucial role in making every day count.

May all in our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur have an easy and meaningful fast. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year. This day is also known as the Day of Atonement and many Jews spend the day in prayer and fasting. In observance of Yom Kippur, Monday September 21 is a holiday and schools and offices will be closed.
