🚌 National School Bus Safety Week 🚌

Every school day, Clinton students count on drivers to help them get to and from school safely. Slow down near bus stops, give buses plenty of room, and stay alert for children who may be crossing the street.

Parents and caregivers, please remind children to wait for the bus in a safe spot and look both ways before crossing.

🚲 E-Bikes & Students 🚲

Parents & Students,

I've been getting a lot of questions about what e-bikes CMS students can legally ride to school, so I wanted to share this breakdown of Iowa's e-bike rules.

Please take a minute to look at the flyer with your student. A couple key things for families:

1. Not everything sold as an "e-bike" is an e-bike in Iowa. To count as an e-bike, it must have fully operable pedals and a motor under 750 watts. Electric motorcycles / dirt bikes without pedals don't qualify.

2. Age matters for Class 3. Class 1 & Class 2 have no statewide minimum age, but you must be 16+ to operate a Class 3.

3. Ride Safe. Helmets are strongly recommended (no statewide requirement), and you need a white front light and red rear light/reflector from sunset to sunrise.

If you're thinking about buying one, please check the specs on the box/manual first.

To our Jefferson Caregivers,

Good morning on this hot and humid day!

Unfortunately, this hot, humid day, combined with some trouble for our air conditioning handlers, has made most of our classrooms very warm, making it very difficult to keep our learning environment safe, supportive, and focused on learning. To make the best decision for the students and staff of Jefferson, we will be releasing two hours early at 12:45 today, September 3rd.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause some families; however, for our school community as a whole, we feel this is the best decision. A few pieces of information:
Our amazing maintenance team has worked tirelessly on this issue and will continue to develop new solutions. Thankfully, the last of the warm days are over tomorrow, and we already have a two-hour early out scheduled.
The After School Program will be canceled today.
Buses will be released at 12:45 for K-5, with PK buses releasing at 1:15.
