🎉 We’ve spent the day celebrating at Garland Senior Center! ⭐

First.... September anniversaries! 🥳

These three have officially been part of our GSC crew for: (First picture, starting left; Rosa, Mickey, Mary)

🎈 Mickey & Mary ~ 1 year!

We are sure they found their way to us! Thank you for the laughs, friendships, memories, and all the little things that make our days more fun. ❤️

⭐ AND… meet our SENIOR STARS! ⭐

We started something new this month! Our Senior Star Award recognizes participants who go a little above and beyond; lending a hand, sharing their talents, looking out for others, and helping make Garland Senior Center the kind of place people enjoy being.

🌟 July~ Creola: For helping make sure others have a way to join us and always being a good friend.

🌟 August ~ Sylvia: For sharing her creativity, time, talents, and plenty of great ideas to help keep our center looking its best!

🌟September ~ Mary: For one of those people who is always ready to jump in and help decorating, organizing, participating, or whatever else we manage to get into! 😄

And yes… Mary made BOTH pictures this month! 🎉⭐ We think she’s earned those bragging rights!

💛 Angela’s Caregiver Tip – September Edition 💛

Caring for someone you love is an important role, but even the strongest caregivers need support, encouragement, and a reminder to care for themselves, too.

This month, Angela Faircloth, Family Caregiver Specialist is sharing 10 simple but important tips for family caregivers. These reminders can help make the caregiving journey a little more manageable.

🌻 Most importantly—give yourself credit. You may not get everything perfect, and that’s okay. You’re doing the best you can in one of the toughest jobs there is.

🎉 September is National Senior Center Month!🎉

This year’s theme is “Happier Birthdays Happen Here,” and we think that fits our senior centers pretty well!

At Garland Senior Center and Roseboro Satellite Senior Center, we see daily how important it is to have places where happier birthdays begin and not just with candles and cake, but with:

🤝 Connection: friendships, laughter, and a place to belong.
🌱 Purpose: opportunities to learn, contribute, and keep growing.
💪 Wellness: activities that encourage healthier, more active lives.
❤️ Support: resources and people you can count on.
🏡 Community: welcoming spaces where everyone matters.

Every day, older adults walk through our doors and find friendships that matter, programs that energize, new experiences to enjoy, and opportunities to stay connected and engaged.

At our Senior Centers, we believe getting older should never mean slowing down on the things that bring us joy, purpose, friendship, and FUN!

Throughout September, Sampson County Senior Services is proud to celebrate our senior centers and even more importantly, the wonderful people who bring them to life every day.

Today, Garland Senior Center honored legendary county music star, Dolly Parton with “Dolly Day”!

We celebrated Dolly by :
💜Wearing her favorite color
🦋Made honor ribbons with butterflies
💜Participated in Dolly themed trivia
🦋Sang her hit songs
💜Ended with the movie “Coat of Many Colors”.

Everyone had a blast joining together to honor her memory- even those who skipped out on our group picture . 💜🦋
