Community Strength in the Face of Tragedy: A Heartfelt Thank You

Yesterday evening, our community faced a profound tragedy with the fire at Brookdale Senior Living. While the situation was devastating, the overwhelming wave of support, bravery, and selflessness that followed showed the true heart of our city.
We want to extend our deepest, most sincere gratitude to the incredible first responders, municipal teams, organizations, and private citizens who came to our aid and the aid of Brookdale’s residents.
Here is a look at the incredible team effort that carried us through the night and into today:
🚨 First Responders & Tactical Support
• Jackson Fire Department: Thank you for bringing 4 fire engines, a ladder truck, air supply, and massive manpower. Your team filled well over 100 air bottles, keeping the firefight continuous and aggressive.
• Hinds & Madison County Volunteers: Immense thanks to the volunteers who rushed in from stations across Bolton, Brownsville, Pocahontas, Raymond, Byram, Maclean, Terry, and Flora.
• Clinton Police Department: Thank you for managing critical staging and traffic control, and for providing drone footage that allowed us to monitor water coverage and target hot spots.
• Mutual Aid Offers: A special thank you to Ridgeland Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, and Byram Fire Department for immediately reaching out to offer trucks and crews.
• AMR: Thank you for your speedy, excellent medical care on-scene, for remaining on standby to keep our firefighters safe, and for helping facilitate getting residents safely onto buses.
• Byram VFD: Thank you for setting up and maintaining the rehab station to keep our crews safe and functional during the grueling firefight.
• Off duty personnel and retired CFD members: for showing up, stepping in, and maintaining a position without hesitation
🏢 Agency & Municipal Partners
• Clinton Public Works: A massive thank you to Phillip Lilley and his team
• Mississippi Department of Health: Your guidance was an invaluable asset in helping Brookdale staff successfully account for every single resident.
• Hinds County EOC & MEMA: Thank you for stepping in with vital manpower and resources to support the response teams.
• Morrison Heights Church: Setting up a reunification area is an incredibly stressful, monumental task. You executed it with seamless efficiency, grace, and deep care for the residents and their worried loved ones.
• Clinton Public School District: Thank you to Superintendent Andy Scoggins, Athletic Director Judd Boswell, and Head Football Coach Hamer Morgan for answering our late-night call for buses and personally stepping up to drive them.
• Clinton High School Football Team: To the players who volunteered their time and physical strength to help residents safely board the buses—you showed the true meaning of leadership. Our city is incredibly proud of you.
🍽️ Continuous Community Comfort & Care
To the families, neighbors, and local businesses who kept our team fueled and hydrated during the fire and throughout the following day:
• The wives of our firemen and the community members who brought food and drinks directly to the fire scene.
• Hometown Windshield (owned by a former CFD Captain) for being a major presence with food when it was needed most.
• Pinelake Church & the Clinton High School Culinary Arts Department for delivering food to the station today, keeping us fueled as day-to-day emergency operations continued without a pause.
• Clinton Refrigeration Service & Dr. Susan Fortenberry at Pediatric Dentistry for providing the water and electrolyte drinks vital for our crew's rehydration.
To any citizen or business we may have missed by name: please know that your kindness did not go unnoticed. You are the reason this town is so amazing.

Standing with Brookdale
Our hearts remain heavy today. We extend our deepest, most profound sympathy to the residents of Brookdale Senior Living, their families, and the dedicated staff members. Please know that you have our continuous prayers, our thoughts, and every resource we can possibly provide as you navigate this incredibly difficult time. Together, as one community, we will rebuild and heal.

Meet the Team Behind the Front Lines!

Behind every truck that rolls out and every emergency call we answer, there is a dedicated team keeping the Clinton Fire Department running safely, efficiently, and smoothly. Today, we are proud to introduce the administrative leaders who support our community and our firefighters every single day! Pictured from left to right:
• Chief Levius Buckley – Head of Department
As our Fire Chief, Chief Buckley oversees all department activities, operations, and strategic vision, ensuring our team is always ready to protect Clinton.
• Chris White – Fire Marshal
Marshal White works tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent emergencies before they start. He inspects local businesses, restaurants, schools, daycares, and nursing homes to ensure public safety. He also reviews and approves new building plans and conducts site checks during construction to keep Clinton's growth fire-safe.
• Hayes Nix – Training & Safety Officer
Officer Nix handles the vital job of keeping our crew sharp. He trains new recruits, coordinates ongoing education and promotional qualifications, and manages fitness requirements. Crucially, he also serves as the Safety Officer, watching over our crews both at the station and on live emergency scenes.
• Julie Cross – Administrative Assistant
Julie is the glue that holds our daily operations together. She manages office workflow, processes invoices, coordinates schedules, and handles payroll. On top of keeping the office running smoothly, Julie has joined in with others in stepping up to help fill our public education gap—visiting local schools and daycares to teach vital fire safety to our youth.

🏆 CONGRATULATIONS, CAPTAIN IAN MOORE 🏆

Today, the Chamber of Commerce recognized city employees for their outstanding service. We recognize this year's Clinton Fire Department Firefighter of the Year, Captain Ian Moore. Our fire chief, Levius Buckley, said it best when introducing Captain Moore:

"Captain Moore represents what we want in a firefighter and a leader.

Over the past year, Ian stepped up and filled the role of Captain for approximately five months, including a three-month period while a firefighter was out having a baby. He never complained. He simply put his head down, went to work, and did what needed to be done.

He also volunteered to take responsibility for our department's air supply. He handles our air quality testing and the maintenance and repairs of our air packs. lan has taken that responsibility and made sure our equipment is ready when we need it.

But what stands out most about lan is that he consistently goes above and beyond without looking for recognition. He leads by example, pays attention to the details, and many times solves a problem before it ever reaches his supervisor.

His commitment extends beyond the fire station. lan treats the citizens of Clinton like members of his own family. He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and compassion to every call and represents this department extremely well at public education events.

lan holds himself to a high standard, and he naturally holds those around him to that same standard. He is dependable, dedicated, a team player, and a leader.

Most importantly, he genuinely cares about this department, this city, and the people we serve.

lan's actions speak much louder than his words, and those actions have made a difference to the Clinton Fire Department.

Captain Moore, congratulations. You are very deserving of being named the 2026 Clinton Fire Department Firefighter of the Year."

Captain Moore's wife, BreeAnna Moore, joined him in today's celebration.

TGIF! We wanted to kick off the weekend with a light-hearted peek behind the scenes at the incredible camaraderie we share with our local community partners.

While the public doesn't always see it, our fire department shares a close working relationship—and a strong personal bond—with the team at Mississippi Christian University.

Recently, MCU's Assistant Director of Public Safety, Brent Perkins, spotted his neighbor's back porch on fire. He quickly dialed 911, grabbed a garden hose, and successfully put out the flames.
Naturally, we couldn't let his heroic firefighting debut pass without a little fun!

We coordinated a top-secret "meeting" with MCU's Director of Public Safety, Mike Warren, loaded up the truck, and surprised Brent with his very own official "Firefighter Starter Kit."

On a serious note, we want to give a massive shoutout to Brent. His fast action and quick thinking truly saved his neighbor's house and property. Excellent job, Brent!
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful weekend!
