Clive Police Department The officer's powers and duties are conferred by statute. All citizens will be treated equally with courtesy, consideration and dignity.

The 29 sworn staff and seven civilian employees of the Clive Police serve the City through excellent community policing, fair and timely investigations, regular patrols of Clive neighborhoods, and multiple public education and partnership programs. Law Enforcement Code of Conduct:

All law enforcement officers, must be fully aware of the ethical responsibilities of their position and strive constantly to live up to the highest possible standards of professional policing. Primary Responsibilities of a Police Officer:

A police officer acts as an official representative of government who is required and trusted to work within the law. The fundamental duties of a police officer include serving the community, safeguarding lives and property, protecting the innocent, keeping the peace and ensuring the rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice. Performance of the Duties of a Police Officer:

A police officer shall perform all duties impartially, without favor or affection or ill will and without regard to status, s*x, race, religion, political belief or aspiration. Officers will never allow personal feelings, animosities, or friendships to influence official conduct. Laws will be enforced appropriately and courteously and, in carrying out their responsibilities, officers will strive to obtain maximum cooperation from the public. They will conduct themselves in appearance and department in such a manner as to inspire confidence and respect for the position of public trust they hold. Discretion:

A police officer will use responsibly the discretion vested in his or her position and exercise it within the law. The principle of reasonableness will guide the officer's determinations, and the officer will consider all surrounding circumstances in determining whether any legal action shall be taken. Consistent and wise use of discretion, based on professional policing competence, will do much to preserve good relationships and retain the confidence of the public. Use of Force:

A police officer will never employ unnecessary force or violence and will use only such force in the discharge of duty as is reasonable in all circumstances. The use of force should be used only with the greatest restraint and only after discussion, negotiation and persuasion have been found to be inappropriate, or ineffective. While the use of force is occasionally unavoidable, every police officer will refrain from unnecessary infliction of pain or suffering and will never engage in cruel, degrading or inhuman treatment of any person. Confidentiality:

Whatever a police officer sees, hears, or learns, will be kept confidential unless the performance of duty or legal provision requires otherwise. Members of the public have a right to security and privacy, and information obtained about them must not be improperly divulged. Integrity:

A police officer will not engage in acts of corruption or bribery, nor will an officer condone such acts by other police officers. The public demands the integrity of police officers be above reproach. Police officers must, therefore, avoid any conduct that might compromise integrity and thus undercut the public confidence in a law enforcement agency. Officers will refuse to accept any gifts, presents, subscriptions, favors, gratuities or promises that could be interpreted as seeking to cause the officer to refrain from performing official responsibilities honestly and within the law. Police officers must not receive private or special advantage from their official status. Respect from the public cannot be bought; it can only be earned and cultivated. Cooperation With Other Police Officers and Agencies:

Police officers will cooperate with all legally authorized agencies and their representatives in the pursuit of justice. An officer or agency may be one among many organizations that may provide law enforcement services to a jurisdiction. It is imperative that a police officer assist colleagues fully and completely with respect and consideration at all times. Personal-Professional Capabilities:

Police officers will be responsible for their own standard of professional performance and will take every reasonable opportunity to enhance and improve their level of knowledge and competence. Through study and experience, a police officer can acquire the high level of knowledge and competence that is essential for the efficient and effective performance of duty. The acquisition of knowledge is a never-ending process of personal and professional development that should be pursued constantly. Private Life:

Police officers will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to their agencies or themselves. A police officers's character and conduct while off duty must always be exemplary, thus maintaining a position of respect in the community in which he or she lives and serves. The officer's personal behavior must be beyond reproach.

Serious Injury Accident Closes Interstate Between Hickman Road and University Avenue. Case # 26-01307.

Clive, Iowa – On October 2nd, 2026, at 7:52 pm, a serious crash involving a motorcyclist and a passenger vehicle was reported in the Westbound 80/ Southbound 35 section of the interstate between Hickman Road and University Avenue. Due to the size of the crash scene and the extent of injuries, that section of the interstate has been, and will remain closed, throughout the course of the investigation. This is necessary due to the size of the scene and the need to provide a barrier for investigators and Fire/EMS personnel on scene.

Motorists should expect delays in the area and are asked to find alternate routes. In Clive, NW 114th street and NW 128th Street from Hickman Road to the south should be utilized. Interstate 235, through Des Moines is also open as an alternate route from the east Mixmaster.

As soon as the roadway opens back up, we will make that notification. At this time, we will not be releasing any personal information about the parties involved or the investigation itself.

The Clive Police Department is being assisted in this investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, the Urbandale Fire Department and the West Des Moines Police Department.

Stolen Vehicle and Fi****ms Recovered Following Vehicle Pursuit. Four Juveniles in Custody.

Case # 26-01254

Date: 09/25/2026

RELEASED BY: Chief Mark Rehberg [email protected] 515-867-5015

Clive, Iowa – On September 21st, 2026, just after 6:00 pm, Clive Police Officers attempted to stop a confirmed stolen vehicle, on NW 86th Street. The vehicle fled the scene, and officers followed a short distance before backing off the vehicle due to the amount of traffic and wet road conditions. Officers were able to keep sight of the vehicle, which turned into a parking lot in the 4500 block of 86th Street in Urbandale. The occupants fled the scene on foot. The vehicle, identified from a Polk County theft report, was turned over to deputies at the scene.

A perimeter was established with the help of Urbandale and Johnston Police Departments. A K9 from the Clive Police was deployed for a track. A short time later, two suspects were seen entering a building by officers. An apartment in the complex was identified and secured. Four juvenile suspects were located inside the apartment. Detectives from the Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force (MINE) were called to assist in the investigation and a search warrant was authorized for the apartment.

A total of six fi****ms were recovered from the apartment. Four have now been confirmed as stolen fi****ms. Additional drug evidence was also located.

The ages of the four juveniles ranged from 14 to 17 years old. One of the juveniles was initially held on warrants for their arrest. A second was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons and additional drug and theft charges. This case remains under investigation as we continue to work with the Polk County Sheriff to process evidence and analyze electronic devices recovered from the scene. Additional charges are pending against all four juveniles.

The Clive Police Department reminds residents to take precautions to prevent vehicle burglaries and thefts. Lock your vehicles, take keys and valuables inside with you, and always be aware of your surroundings.

The Clive Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Johnston Police Department, The Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, the Polk County Attorney’s Office, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Urbandale Police Department.

🔐LOCK IT UP, Clive! 🚔

We’ve seen a significant increase in vehicle burglaries and thefts over the weekend in surrounding communities, and we’re asking everyone to take a few extra seconds to protect their vehicle and belongings.

🚨DID YOU KNOW?
Most vehicle thefts and break-ins involve unlocked vehicles.

Before you walk away:
✅ Lock your doors.
✅ Take your keys.
✅ Remove valuables.
✅ Secure fi****ms properly, your car is not a gun safe.
✅ Double-check before heading inside.

It only takes a few seconds to lock up — but those few seconds can make a big difference.

Lock it. Take it. Secure it. 🔒🚓
