🚨 IMPORTANT COMMUNITY NOTICE: MINNEAPOLIS URBAN OFFICE FIRE

Aaniin gakina awiiya,
We are writing to share an urgent real-time update with our community regarding our Fond du Lac Band’s Minneapolis Urban Office, located within the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe building at 1308 Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis Fire Department and emergency crews are currently on the scene actively working to suppress a major fire at this location.

This is an incredibly sad and heavy moment for our relatives down in the Minneapolis metro area, for our dedicated Fond du Lac Band staff who use this space to care for our community daily and for our Fond du Lac Band as a whole. This building is a vital lifeline where our staff comes together every day to feed, support, and uplift our people. Hearing the heartbreak of our frontline staff processing this loss in real time reminds us just how deeply rooted this office is in the lives of our urban relatives.

Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries to any community members or staff. Our thoughts are also with the responding firefighters who are working to control the blaze.

Because the situation remains active and the building has suffered significant damage, the Minneapolis Urban Office will be closed for operations until further notice. Please do not travel to the facility at this time so that emergency personnel can maintain clear access to the scene.

We know how much our community relies on the daily care provided at this office. We ask for your patience as our Band navigates this crisis. We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide clear, verified updates as soon as we can safely plan for temporary service adjustments and find new ways to continue our support.

Chi miigwech to the first responders, and a deep chi miigwech to our community and dedicated staff of our Minneapolis Urban Office for your resilience, love, and support during this difficult moment.

👋 Aaniin gakina awiiya,

🎥 If you missed it, we were able to share some time with Arianna Northbird-Himango, Fond du Lac Band’s Environmental Department Manager.

🌱 Arianna shared the background and culmination of our new Fond du Lac Band’s Strategic Energy Plan.

🏢 To celebrate and release the plan, they will be hosting an Energy Program Open House next week:

📅 Wednesday, October 14
⏰ 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
📍 St. Louis River Room at our Black Bear Casino Resort

👥 All are welcome to attend this community event to learn much more, meet those implementing the work, and come together to celebrate this good work for our Tribal Nation.

🤝 Chi miigwech to Arianna, her staff, our Resource Management Division, and the many partners who made this energy plan possible.

❤️ Most importantly, miigwech to our Tribal community for sharing your input along the journey of this project. This is truly for you and by you!

✨ See you all this Wednesday, October 14!

🌐 PUBLIC NOTICE: ATTENTION ALL CARLTON & ST. LOUIS COUNTY RESIDENTS

Looking to Vote Early?

By utilizing Minnesota statutory provisions that require counties, upon a Tribal Nation’s request, to locate temporary in-person voting sites on Tribal land, our Fond du Lac Band has designated two official early voting locations to serve our entire region.

This effort ensures that all eligible voters, including Tribal community members, staff, and local county neighbors, have a secure, direct way to participate ahead of Election Day, even in our rural areas.

By working together to share these verified locations, we can increase local voter access, alleviate lines at permanent polling locations, and better serve our more rural individuals, families, elders and home.

Whether you wish to vote early in person or hand-deliver a mail-in ballot, you are welcome to do so at either site on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM:

📍 Carlton County Residents:
Sawyer Community Center
3243 W Moorhead Rd, Sawyer, MN 55780

📍 St. Louis County Residents:
Brookston Community Center
8200 Belich St, Cloquet, MN 55720

📣 Help Us Spread the Word!

Because early voting windows are brief, we need your help to ensure every eligible voter across our Tribal Nations and local counties are informed.

⚠️ REMINDER: These Early Votes Sites are Open to All Eligible Voters Across Carlton and St. Louis Counties.

Please share this notice, tag your friends, and remind your neighbors, family, and colleagues who wish to vote early.
