SAME!
We stand with Carolina Waterfowl Rescue on this one. Just because they scare you doesnt mean they should suffer - for your fear. Be kind. Call us and we will help you.

**He was attacked with a shovel.**

And he suffered for quite a while before someone finally found him and brought him to us.

This is a copperhead. His eye has been crushed. His jaw has been crushed. We don't know exactly how long he lay there suffering, but we know it wasn't quick.

And this is something I wish more people understood about snakes:

**They feel pain.**

They are not evil. They are not out to get you. They are not monsters. They are animals trying to survive in a world that often fears them simply because of what they are.

Copperheads are venomous, and we aren't going to pretend that a bite is something you should take lightly. But being afraid of an animal does not give us permission to make it suffer.

There is a humane way to deal with wildlife.

There are people who, like me, will relocate snakes for free. We don't charge someone to remove a snake from their yard, and we don't kill it simply because it happens to be somewhere that makes a person uncomfortable.

Imagine being attacked with a shovel and left injured, unable to escape, unable to eat properly, and unable to understand why someone decided you deserved to suffer.

It doesn't matter whether you like snakes.

It doesn't matter whether you're afraid of them.

**An animal does not have to be cute, cuddly, or harmless to deserve humane treatment.**

And if an animal truly does need to be euthanized because it poses an unavoidable danger or is suffering beyond recovery, there are humane ways to do that too. **There is never a reason to deliberately inflict prolonged suffering on an animal.**

Copperheads are also part of our ecosystem and have value far beyond what many people realize. Their venom has been studied extensively for compounds with medical applications, including research involving blood clotting, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Like many venomous animals, they have contributed to scientific research that can ultimately benefit humans.

So before you pick up a shovel, a hoe, or anything else to try to kill a snake, please stop.

Back away.

Give it space.

Call someone who knows how to safely relocate it.

**Fear is understandable. Cruelty isn't.**

This snake didn't ask to be in someone's way.

He didn't deserve what happened to him.

And we're going to do everything we can to make sure that, whatever time he has left, he knows what it feels like to be treated with kindness instead.

PSA: IF YOU FIND SOMEONE’S BIRD, YOU DO NOT GET TO GIVE IT AWAY.

What the actual f**k, guys.

If a parrot lands on your porch, flies into your yard, shows up at a park, or otherwise ends up in your possession, you have found a LOST PET.

You have not won a parrot.

You have not been gifted a parrot by the universe.

And you absolutely do not get to post it online for a few hours and then hand it over to some random person who says, “I’ll take it.”

Somewhere, there may be a family absolutely losing their minds looking for that bird.

Parrots can fly much farther than people realize. They can be missing for days, weeks, sometimes longer before their family finds the right post. Their owner may not even be in the same Facebook group you’re posting in.

If you find a bird:

* Keep it secure and safe.
* Report it as found.
* Contact local animal control or law enforcement as appropriate.
* Post in local lost-and-found pet groups and bird groups.
* Post it with For the Love of Louie and Parrot 911.
* Reach out to local parrot rescues and ask them to share the found-bird post.
* Contact nearby veterinarians and shelters.
* If you cannot safely hold the bird while the owner is being located, turn it over to a reputable parrot rescue, animal control, or your local Humane Society so there is an actual paper trail and a safe place for the bird to stay.
* Do not publish every identifying detail. Make anyone claiming the bird prove ownership with photos, band information, distinctive markings, vocabulary, veterinary records, cage photos, etc.
* And for the love of God, DO NOT GIVE THE BIRD AWAY.

A found bird is not an unwanted bird being surrendered.

It is somebody’s missing family member until appropriate efforts have been made to locate the legal owner.

Imagine losing your dog and discovering three days later that the person who found him just f**king gave him to somebody.

Same thing.

Please stop doing this.

FOUND DOES NOT MEAN FREE.

Elsa is home❤️
2 and a half day stay at the Points East Er before the tremors finally stopped, but today - thankfully - she seems like the worst of it has passed and she is very happy to be home. Assessment is still exposure to a toxic mold or mushroom.
Some pictures from day one and now of this beautiful soul.
Thank you to those that have donated towards her bill, shared, and sent us all the good juju so her light can continue to shine! She's on several medications for the next week to keep her stable but she acts mostly like she is back to her old self.
I have included a pic of the final bill, which topped out at just over $3,000. -whew!- which is somehow, for added blessing, a bit under the original estimate of $3,300, but it has drained the bulk of our emergency fund and we could still use your help to cover the cost so we can continue our mission of salvation for the next critter in need.
So grateful for the veterinarians and their teams at Points East for taking stellar care of our girl❤️

If you would like to make a donation you can do so at the links below. Any amount helps.❤️

❤️💔❤️
Everyone say a prayer for our girl Elsa ( the anatolian shepherd). She has been in the Er vet hospital for the last two days.
Some time on Sunday, she came in contact with an obscure type of mold spores, or possibly wild mushrooms, and i found her having violent tremors and foaming at the mouth that evening.
It was terrifying to find her in such a state. She was cognizant and reacting to my voice but had no control over her head and legs and was completely panic stricken and I was trying not hard to be so too.
With the help of local staffer Alli , i was able to get her loaded to head to the vet hospital, and her daughter Peyton accompanied me in the car to help me keep her calm and safe.
She is stable now, but as of last night was still very weak and struggling to maintain control of her movements.
For those that havent had the pleasure of meeting her, Elsa is the kindest gentlest soul.

She and her sister were "the 4th of july puppies" from 2 years ago. They had crawled up onto somebody's porch, in the 100⁰ heat, completely dehydrated, emaciated, and barely clinging to life at appoximately 14 weeks old. The rescue that was first contacted, was full and reached out to us. There was, of course, no question we would bring them in. Livestock guardians, with their unique minds and uncanny intuition hold a special place in my heart, and as they settled in and came back to health, it was clear that there was something particularly magical in the connection i had with Elsa.
We have rescued A LOT of street babies over the years and, although the goodbyes always take a piece of our hearts with them, we steward them knowing that our goal is placement with their new best-friends-for-life. We just foster them as their soft landing place.
A lot of people use the term "foster fail" when a dog meant to be adopted out ends up staying, but i have always considered it a "foster win" when they find their forever ❤️right where they landed instead.
Elsa is our foster win. She has shared love and joy with 100s of visitors over these past two years. She steals your heart when she looks at you with eyes that seem to meet your soul, and always seems to know when someone needs that little bit of extra love. She even has a bit of a fan club with some of our young service men and women from Ft Bragg who come to just sit quietly and get their fix of canine love and peace - therapy for the heart. She means the world to all who have met her.
There is every indication that she will fully recover but she has a bit of a road ahead to get there.
Please keep her in your thoughts and send that light her way.

Needless to say the bill is astronomical. There was zero hesitation to protect her and save her at any cost, but we could really use your help. I have posted a picture of the bill as of that first night - which ended up at the high-end, and with her extra night's stay, it is expected to be up over $3,300.00. I will post the final bill in the comments when we pick her up.
I know many of us are struggling with the cost of everything right now but every dollar helps, and shares are so valuable too!!
We will post an update as soon as she can safely come home.
Thank you all for the support and for being a part of our amazing sanctuary family!!
