Very early tomorrow morning marks the 18th anniversary of the Trooper 2 crash. Just after midnight on September 28th, 2008, Pilot Stephen H. Bunker, Trooper First Class/Flight Paramedic Mickey C. Lippy, and Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Medical Technician Tonya M. Mallard were killed in a helicopter crash while performing a medical evacuation of two critically injured teenagers from Charles County, Maryland. A ground search was initiated and the wreckage was found in Walker Mill Regional Park in Prince George's County. Pilot Bunker, TFC Lippy, EMT Mallard, and one of the patients were killed in the crash. The second patient survived, but was severely injured. We will never forget our Fallen Heroes.

Many members from EMS 6 and EMT Mallard were in the same EMT class. We spent many, many hours in the classroom together and in study sessions to complete EMT and EMT Mallard was right there with us.

We Will NEVER forget our Fallen Heros!

HIGH WATER ADVISORY — COBB ISLAND

Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS is reminding our community to use extra caution as rainfall and high tides may create hazardous driving conditions along Route 254/Cobb Island Road.

Flooding in low-lying areas can develop quickly and may continue to change throughout the day. Even when the roadway appears passable, water can cover hazards that are impossible to see from inside a vehicle.

A few important reminders:

• Plan ahead if you need to travel on or off the island.
• Allow extra time and avoid unnecessary trips when conditions are poor.
• Never drive around barricades or road-closure signs.
• Do not assume a large vehicle can safely cross floodwater.
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to see standing water and roadway damage.
• If you encounter flooding, turn around and find a safe alternative rather than taking a chance.
• Keep an eye on changing weather and local emergency notifications.

For everyone who lives, works, or travels through Cobb Island, please look out for one another. A few extra minutes of caution can prevent a dangerous situation and help keep our emergency crews from having to respond to avoidable incidents.

If you see someone attempting to travel through dangerous floodwater, encourage them to turn around.
