This past weekend, 5 of our officers participated in and facilitated the 2026 Green Mountain Iron Dog right here in town.

Sgt. Dewey, Det. Cpl. Fell, Det. Fitzpatrick, Cpl. Gutierrez, and Ofc. Lopes all helped make the event a paws-itively howling success... And our very own K9 Ozzy took home first place in the Police Canine Building Search!

Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Anticipated to Open September 16 Overnight

The DDI project team plans to implement the new traffic pattern on U.S. 2/7 at the I-89 Exit 16 interchange in Colchester overnight on Wednesday 9/16, weather permitting.

Crews are working on the construction of the DDI and improvements to the adjacent intersections of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) at South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive/Lower Mountain View Drive in preparation for the new traffic pattern changes. The remaining work is highly dependent on weather, and the completion of these activities is critical to the opening of the DDI. Weather could delay the opening. Additional updates will be issued on the project website.

The new traffic pattern briefly shifts vehicles to the left side of the roadway as they travel through the interchange. This design allows drivers turning left onto interstate entrance ramps to do so without crossing oncoming traffic. Once through the interchange, traffic returns to the normal right side of the roadway. Traffic signals will control both crossover points.

To learn how to navigate the new interchange, view the step-by-step guide here or view the driving animations on the project website.

Last week in California, retired Lt. Jim Roy was celebrated on a national level for his work while at CPD!

During the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference, Lt. Roy was bestowed with the Association's Richard "Dick" Studdard Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Emeritus Award. The honor recognizes formerly certified DREs who have served the goals of the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program with the highest level of integrity, demonstrated advanced knowledge and skill, and made exceptional and sustained contributions to the program.

It decorates individuals whose accomplishments are well documented and are no longer eligible to maintain active DRE certification due to retirement, promotion, or reassignment.

The Vermont Highway Safety Alliance stated, "Jim's outstanding contributions have not only helped guide and grow Vermont's DRE Program, but has made an impact across the United States and beyond."

A big and well-deserved congratulations to Lt. Roy!

Recently in a 36-hour span, our officers stopped over 30 vehicles through the Exit 16 DDI construction zone. These stops resulted in a variety of tickets and warnings-- mostly for speed-related offenses.

We would like to remind drivers that the speed limit has been lowered to 30 mph in that work zone, and fines can be doubled through there and other highway construction areas.
