👀CREATURE FEATURE: Marbled Salamander!

🦎Meet the marbled salamander! These striking amphibians are recognizable by their silver or white bands against a dark body.

🍂 Unlike many salamanders, marbled salamanders breed in the fall! Females lay their eggs in dry or drying woodland pools and guard them until rainfall fills the pools with water.

🌧️ Keep an eye out on cool, rainy fall nights when these secretive forest dwellers become more active!

🐢Last weekend, our educators were at Pelton Pond sharing information about invasive species and the turtles of New York! Visitors learned how invasive species impact our native ecosystems and discovered the unique turtles that call New York home.

Keep the learning going by stopping by our table this weekend to explore the Snakes of New York! Learn how to identify our native snake species, separate fact from fiction, and find out why these often-misunderstood reptiles are an important part of healthy ecosystems. 🐍🌿

We hope to see you there!

April photo dump 🌿 From fire and shelter building to aquatic ecology and fishing, it’s been a month full of hands-on learning and time well spent outdoors. We’ve loved spotting signs of animals waking up after a long winter and sharing so many simple, meaningful moments along the way 🐾

We had a great time with students from PS 219 exploring wind energy and sustainability 🌬️ Students learned the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources and discussed how to use shared resources responsibly. They then put their engineering skills to work by designing and building their own windmills to take back to school ⚙️
