Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Lady Bluebirds Clinch Conference Championship on Senior Night: Thursday OCT 15th was the last home volleyball game for Seniors Andrea Dieckman, Riley Raetz and Taylor Loganbill. It was also Pink Out night in recognition of those who have or currently are dealing with cancer issues. Kudos to the Smithton team wearing pink also. And the seat William Smart had sat in all season was empty with a pink ribbon wrapped around it in memory of his very recent passing.
Addy Russell served 5 as Cole Camp moved ahead 6-2 in the opening JV set. Later, Melanie Dieckman served 5 as part of a 10-1 run and Cole Camp took the set 25-15.
It was the Lady Tigers with a strong 8-1 effort opening the 2nd set. Russell nice hustle at the net and Kaylan Poe a kill and an ace midway. Lauren Hesse a couple scores late but Cole Camp couldn't catch the Tigers and so Smithon won 25-15.
Melanie Dieckman with 7 in a row opening the last JV set. Addison Brockman with 2 well placed hits and Kaylyn Barnes a stretched out dig right at the bench. Cole Camp 15-10 in the deciding 3rd set.
Very tight start to the Varsity game. All 6 players for each team had served at least once and the score was only 8-8. Enter Madilynn Ogle beginning the second rotation. This time she hung around with 11 in a row! Couple aces from her, couple Andrea Dieckman kills and it was Cole Camp 25-13 in the first set.
After a 4-4 start in the 2nd set, Cole Camp was able to score 3 or 4 at a time compared to mostly single points scores for Smithton. Leah Allison and Andrea were adding kills as the Ladybirds took a 25-12 victory.
Loganbill served 5 as part of a 10-8 start to the 3rd set. Andrea held up a do not enter sign, otherwise known as a block, and Aspen Meyer a great save very near the stage! But the wind shifted. Sophomore Eden Herren with 7 in a row as Smithton pulled ahead 16-10. Cole Camp erased that lead and went up 21-20. Carl served 5 in that effort.
Cole Camp up 24-21, but then tied at 24, 25, 26 and 27! Finally 2 failed returns by Cole Camp allowed the Lady Tigers to win the overtime set 29-27.
Back to business in the 4th set as Andrea and Olivia Vansel powered shots over the net and both blocked incoming attempts. Allison served 7 late and a kill by Dakota on a slow flying duck that almost took the hide off the ball! Cole Camp 25-15 wrapping up their 25th and victory of the year!
Kills: Andrea 24, Dakota 11, Allison 10, Ogle 6, Vansel 4.
Digs: Allison 15, Ogle 14, Raetz 13, Carl 12, Meyer 11, Loganbill 7.
Assists: Ogle 43.
Blocks: Andrea 7, Vansel 3, Espey 2.
Aces: Ogle 6.
Great regular season, now it gets even tougher! District play for Cole Camp October 22nd 7:30 p.m. at Stover. Come on over!

Lady Bluebirds Volleyball: Cole Camp Wins 3 of 4 at Northwest: For volleyball fans who also enjoy a drive through nature, games at Hughesville and California provided both. Sites included fall harvest of grain crops and the occasional four-legged deer. If deer want to cross the road at night, they should wear reflective tape!
Junior High A team play began at 5 p.m. October 13th and Miranda Gerken had a string of 10 serves helping Cole Camp lead 14-3. Not much change in the margin from there as Cole Camp took the first set 25-14.
Oaklee Raetz served 11 in a row early 2nd set as Cole Camp moved ahead 12-3. Then a 7-2 close out gave the Ladybirds a 25-11 victory.
Two sets of JH B team play followed and Northwest lead 9-4 early. Cole Camp did manage to tie the game at one point but came up short at the end. Northwest 25-22.
8th grader Bristin McGinnis with 10 in a row propelled the Lady Mustangs to a 16-5 lead in the 2nd set. Cole Camp whittled away at the margin but still fell 17-25 to Northwest.
Both JV teams had trouble with serves landing in the net as their game unfolded. However Kaylan Poe dropped in 5 nearing midpoint for a 12-6 lead. Addison Brockman a couple aces as she served the last 6 for a Cole Camp 25-12 decision.
Cole Camp sprang ahead 7-1 in the 2nd JV set and kept going. Lauren Hesse with a net runner kill. What is that? When the ball is hit and contacts the top of the net, once in a great while the ball will roll right on top of the net before falling to one side or the other. Addy Russell does the setter work for the JV team and much like Madilynn Ogle does on varsity, Russell threw in a surprise backflip for a score. Brockman 3 kills late and Cole Camp wrapped up a 25-7 win.
A familiar face to the Cole Camp team was on the opposing side of the net during the varsity match. Junior Maddie Flores is a starter for the Lady Mustangs. Still the friendship was obvious, and that's more important than the game score.
Wins have been scarce for Northwest this year but they put up a good effort in the 1st set. Flores with a couple digs and scores helped the Lady Mustangs build a 14-11 lead. But then the Andrea Dieckman Madilynn Ogle duo took over. These two have been practicing and playing together since third grade. Andrea with 4 kills, Ogle a handful of aces in her 12 serves! Cole Camp 25- 16.
Ogle continued in the 2nd set with 5 in a row, half of those aces. Jolee Espey nailed a duck and Dakota Dieckman multiple kills and a block. Kristin Carl and Riley Raetz kept the floor clean as Cole Camp won 25-11.
Olivia Vansel with a nice defensive dig early 3rd set. Andrea peppered the Mustang defense at the net and then served the last 7 for a 25-15 final victory.
Kills: Andrea 21, Dakota 8, Carl 5.
Digs: Carl 16, Raetz 13, Vansel 6, Loganbill 5, Meyer 5, Ogle 5.
Assists: Ogle 36.
Blocks: Dakota 4, Andrea 2.
Aces: Ogle 9.
Closing on a somber note, let's keep William Smart and family in our prayers. Long time Cole Camp School administrator, Cole Camp Fair announcer and on and on, Mr Smart experienced a medical emergency on the 13th. Another reminder we should not take days for granted. Thank you to Arthur Keuper for writing this article!!

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Lady Pintos Outlast Lady Bluebirds: Cole Camp traveled east October 12th to California for 3 levels of volleyball action. C team play began at 5 p.m. and Cole Camp led briefly 6-5. Still a close game as California moved ahead 16 - 14. From there though the Pintos ran away with a 9-1 string and took the first set 25-15.
Second set was Cole Camp 6-5 early, and their effort improved mid-set. An 8-1 offensive push earned Cole Camp a bit of breathing room and they held it to finish ahead 25-20.
The Pintos burst through the starting gate with a 12-2 run in the JV game. Bralynn Porter served 10 of those. Likely a freshman though the game program did not list which grade the California players are in. Trailing 17-3, Cole Camp regained some ground as Kaylan Barnes served 4 including an ace. Addison Brockman a couple hits and Lauren Hesse good defensive work. Narrowed the margin to 6 late, but California held for a 25-18 win in the 1st JV set.
California led the 2nd set 4-2 and still ahead 15-11 just past halfway. Hesse with a couple well-placed tips at the net helped Cole Camp draw even at 15 each. But a 6 pt answer for the Pintos immediately following stalled the comeback attempt. Melanie Dieckman a kill making it a 2 point deficit, but that was as close as Cole Camp could make it. California 25-22.
Now for the varsity contest. Andrea Dieckman with several kills early, though California (14-10-4) still moved ahead 13-5. But a nice 5 point string by Cole Camp with Riley Raetz serving narrowed the score to 14-12. Madilynn Ogle, Kristin Carl and Raetz were taking a beating on the back row defensively, and Dakota Dieckman a beautiful front-row block late. California 25-21 in the first set.
Cole Camp led 6-5 in the 2nd set when an official blew his whistle indicating and infraction. A rather unusual arm signal was used by the official to describe the foul. Not sure what it was, and by the look on the other officials face, he wasn't sure either. Regardless a strong mid-2nd set as Cole Camp moved ahead 17-10. However the game was all tied again at 19. Couple scores by Dakota and California returns that went under the net rather than over and Cole Camp won 25-22.
Andrea with a big block of California's leader in kills Natalie Booth early third set. Olivia Vansel scooped up a ball and then a block at the net as Cole Camp led 6-4. Lady Bluebirds still up 16 - 14, then a painful stretch to watch. The Pintos reeled off 8 in a row to lead 23-16 and soon took the third set 25-21.
First 3 sets very competitive as expected by all in attendance. So how does the 4th set play out? After Cole Camp claimed the first point, Ogle served 11 in a row! No doubt she has done that before, but against a strong California team? Andrea with kills and blocks up front, Aspen Meyer and Carl excellent work on the backline. Cole Camp 25-11 in the 4th set.
Fifth set and the Pintos jumped ahead 6-1 and what would be a 15-point limit. Kills by Vansel, Andrea, Carl and Dakota brought Cole Camp back within one before California took the deciding set 15-10.
Kills: Andrea 21, Dakota 12, Vansel 6.
Digs: Carl 19, Raetz 14, Ogle 13, Vansel 10, Meyer 9, Loganbill 6.
Assists: Ogle 45.
Blocks: Andrea 7, Dakota 6, Vansel 6, Espey 4.
