Today, we had Waterways of Southwestern Pennsylvania at our station performing our annual fire hose and ground ladder testing on all three of our apparatus. In total, more than 8,000 feet of fire hose was tested, along with all of our ground ladders, to ensure they meet NFPA standards and remain ready for service.

Routine testing and inspection of this equipment is a critical part of our commitment to firefighter safety and operational readiness. By identifying potential issues before they become problems, we help protect our members from equipment failure while ensuring we can continue providing the highest level of service to the community we proudly serve.

Today all 3 of our fire apparatus pumps underwent their annual pump testing to meet NFPA requirements and recertify each pump at its rated capacity.

This testing helps ensure our apparatus remain ready to perform when called upon and confirms the pumps are operating safely and efficiently.

Thank you to Heritage Fire Equipment for completing the testing for our department today.

Today, members of the Colerain Volunteer Fire Company participated in a joint department training in Powhatan Point as part of a large-scale Tanker Task Force exercise.

Fire departments from both Ohio and West Virginia came together to train, collaborate, and strengthen mutual aid operations. Throughout the day, crews were introduced to several new techniques aimed at improving water shuttle operations and overall efficiency on the fireground.

We appreciate the opportunity to train alongside our neighboring departments and continue building the relationships that are critical when it matters most.

AEP and South Central continue to work. AEP hopes to restore power by late tonight to a significant number of customers. Damage to the Belmont County area was severe. We had units respond to 14 different emergency calls. That may actually be a single day record for us. Please continue to avoid lines that are down and allow crews to work.

⏰ Daylight Saving Time – Spring Forward!

This Sunday at 2:00 AM, remember to set your clocks forward one hour.

While you’re changing your clocks, the Colerain Volunteer Fire Company encourages everyone to take a moment to check or replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Working smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most important ways to protect your home and family.

✅ Test your smoke detectors
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Make sure alarms are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas

If you need working smoke detectors or assistance installing them, please feel free to contact the fire station Monday–Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM at (740) 738-0735, and we will be happy to assist you.

A few minutes of prevention can save lives.

The State of Ohio’s Spring Burn Ban is in effect March 1 through May 31, prohibiting open burning during daytime hours due to an increased risk of wildfires.

⏰ Burning is ONLY permitted between:
🟢 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
🔴 Burning is prohibited from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

This seasonal restriction is in place because dry vegetation, low humidity, and wind can cause fires to spread rapidly — putting lives, property, and firefighters at risk.

The Colerain Volunteer Fire Company appreciates your cooperation in helping prevent wildfires and keeping our community safe.
