THREATS MADE INVOLVING LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL
On October 5, 2026, at around 12:02 PM Walla Walla Emergency Service Communications (WESCOM) received a call of an impending threat to College Place High School. Officers from the College Place Police Department supported by the Walla Walla Police Department, Walla Walla County Sheriffs Office, the Washington State Patrol and Fish and Wildlife immediately responded to the school. The College Place Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Once on scene, mutual aid was established and officers began working with school officials to ensure students and staff were safe and secure. This included a school lockdown followed by a systematic and thorough search of the school and perimeter. Investigators began looking into the threats which were quickly unsubstantiated. Specific details surrounding the calls will remain confidential at this time to allow detectives time to conduct a thorough investigation. However, the incident is believed to be a SWATTING HOAX.
Chief Tomaras says, “we take these incidents seriously regardless of the appearance of credibility”. It’s an unfortunate circumstance when individuals report fictitious or erroneous events, says Tomaras. It’s a huge strain on resources. The Walla Walla Valley law enforcement community trains together regularly to respond to such events. Officers and school officials collaborated extremely well to ensure a positive outcome.
The College Place Police Department would also like to thank the City of College Place Public Works who responded immediately to assist with barricades and road closures. This was an extremely well-coordinated response by everyone involved, says Tomaras.
