FIRE SAFETY REMINDER β€” GET OUT, STAY OUT!

When a house fire starts, you may have only minutes to escape. Modern furnishings and building materials can cause fires to develop and spread much faster than many people realize.

Seconds matter. Minutes matter. Have a plan.

βœ… Make sure every home has working smoke alarms.
βœ… Test your smoke alarms regularly.
βœ… Have two ways out of every bedroom.
βœ… Practice your family escape plan.
βœ… Choose a meeting place outside.
βœ… GET OUT and STAY OUT β€” never go back inside for people, pets, or belongings.

A fire doesn't wait for you to figure out what to do. Plan ahead, practice your escape, and give your family the best chance to get out safely.

On Saturday, our members had the opportunity to participate in valuable training provided by the Michigan Propane Gas Association (MPGA).

Continuing education and hands-on training are an important part of keeping our firefighters prepared to safely respond to emergencies involving propane and other hazardous materials. Training like this helps our members better understand the hazards we may encounter and how to safely manage them when seconds matter.

A big thank you to the Michigan Propane Gas Association for coming out and providing this training to our department!

We are committed to training, preparedness, and serving our community safely and professionally.

πŸ”₯ Train today. Be ready tomorrow.

Training for the unpredictable is what keeps our community safe!

Tonight, the members of Colon Community Fire and Rescue put their skills to the test with a missing hunter training scenario at the State Game Area on Colon Road.

Operating with limited information, our teams had to rely on quick thinking, teamwork, and systematic search tactics to successfully locate the missing individual across the property.

Realistic drills like this are crucial because emergency situations rarely come with a clear roadmap. By simulating high pressure, real world conditions, our members sharpen their navigation, communication, and search capabilities.

It was a beautiful evening, with great, people, doing great things!

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 β€” 25 YEARS LATER πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced one of the darkest days in its history. Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the thousands of others whose lives were forever changed.

Among those who made the ultimate sacrifice were 343 firefighters and 60 law enforcement officers who responded to the attacks with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.

For the fire and rescue service, September 11 serves as a lasting reminder of the responsibility we carry each time we answer a call. It represents the courage to respond when others are in danger, the importance of standing together, and the commitment to serve our communities regardless of the circumstances.

We honor the first responders who gave their lives that day, the families who continue to carry their loss, and the responders who have faced lasting consequences from their service.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice remains a part of the history and spirit of the fire service.

We remember their lives.
We honor their sacrifice.
We will never forget.
