Wolf Fine Art Broker: Paintings, Pottery, Sculpture

Recent acquisition by Taos Modernist Beatrice Mandelman (1912-1998). Banana, Pear, Apple. Oil on Canvas. 18 x24 inches. Deaccession from the Mandelman-Ribak Collection, University of New Mexico. In Taos, Mandelman flourished as a bold, emotive colorist with her own personal style. Of her path, the artist said, "I'm an original. I broke all the rules. I'm using a very primitive language—squares, circles, triangles, primitive colors. And I made a very sophisticated art out of it."

Ethel Magafan and her twin sister Jenne studied at the Broadmoor Art Academy (now the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center) in the mid 1930’s under the tutelage of Frank Mechau, Boardman Robinson, and Peppino Mangravite. The Colorado Springs Fine Art Center at Colorado College will be celebrating a 100 year Legacy of the Broadmoor Art Academy opening October 12th.

Two recent acquisitions. Ray Swanson (1937-2004). Cowboy Artists of America. He is well known for depicting Southwest Native American subjects. Edward Chavez (1917-1995). Studied at the Broadmoor Art Academy in the 1930’s in Colorado Springs and won a Fulbright Grant to travel and paint in Italy in 1948. Co-founder of the Woodstock School of Art.
