🚢 From Specialized Training to Amphibious Readiness

Sailors with Assault Craft Unit 5 prepare to embark a Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) aboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8) during Quarterly Underway Amphibious Readiness Training (QUART) 26.2 off the coast of California.

LCACs are piloted by U.S. Navy enlisted Sailors—primarily Boatswain’s Mates serving as craftmasters—who are trained through the NETC pipeline at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek. There, Sailors learn high-speed surface navigation, ship-to-shore movement, and over-the-beach operations essential to supporting the Navy–Marine Corps team.

Training like this connects schoolhouse instruction to real-world ex*****on. QUART events bring Sailors and Marines together to sharpen integration, improve amphibious warfighting proficiency, and ensure forces are ready to respond to crisis or conflict wherever the mission demands.

Chiefs are the backbone of the Fleet.
Great Ships, squadrons and commands are never accidents. They are built through intrusive leadership, clear communication, disciplined ex*****on, and hard work at the deckplates. Chiefs weave together mission accomplishment, safety, ownership, and Sailor development. Through their hands, the Navy delivers quality of service for its people, builds mastery throughout the ranks, and remains ready to fight and win. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle released his fifth CNOte, which clearly lays out his expectations for the Navy’s chief petty officers.
