Colstrip Public — Bear Advisory
We have received reports today of multiple people driving by and stopping to take pictures of the bear, which has resulted in the bear climbing onto an electric pole.
We understand the fascination and excitement surrounding the bear being in town; however, we want to remind everyone that we do not want this bear to pose a risk or become a nuisance to the public, and we also do NOT want the public harassing or provoking the bear.
We have spoken with the local game warden, who will be in the area this afternoon to monitor the situation. If the harassment continues, citations may be issued.
We are working toward relocating the bear as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are asking everyone to please:
• Leave the bear alone.
• Do not repeatedly drive by or stop near the bear.
• Do not approach or attempt to interact with the bear.
• Please refrain from stopping to take pictures.
• Keep a safe distance and allow the bear to move through the area without interference.
The best thing the public can do right now is give the bear space. Excessive attention and harassment can cause the bear to become stressed, behave unpredictably, and create a dangerous situation for both the public and the animal.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep both our community and the bear safe.
