Parents: Family Resource Centers connect parents and families with services that can make everyday life a little easier—from parenting support and child care resources to job training, mental health services, family counseling and more.

Located in schools, churches, hospitals, community centers and other familiar places, many programs are available at no cost or low cost to participating families. Parents: It's time to prepare for flu season! 🤧

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that everyone ages 6 months and older get vaccinated against the flu. It is the best protection against the virus.

Flu vaccines are available at healthcare provider offices, clinics, workplaces, pharmacies, and DPH health departments. 📍

Learn more about the flu, vaccine recommendations and safety, and DPH flu vaccine locations by county, at bit.ly/4yfI5JE.

Parents: Signs of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can appear in young children as early as 9 months old. Early recognition and intervention can help your child get the extra support they need to develop important communication, social, and academic skills. ⭐️

First Five SC offers a helpful guide for caregivers that outlines the early signs of ASD, available resources in South Carolina and steps parents can take if they observe signs of autism in their child.

Read it at bit.ly/4kMgGY7.

Parents: The “moms” in our recent “Work Doesn’t Work” videos tell us about the child care struggles they helped bring to life, which are designed to encourage SC parents to tell us their own challenges in securing child care.

We’ve developed an easy way for you to lend your voice to this issue. If you’re a parent and can relate, check out the Parent Storytelling Project and let us hear from you at https://abcquality.org/work-doesnt-work/.

💚 Saturday is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health matters at every age. More than 1 in 7 U.S. youth ages 6–17 has a mental health condition, and half of all mental health conditions begin before age 14.

Recognizing the signs and offering support early can make a difference. Learn more about children’s mental health and resources from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at www.nami.org/kids-teens-and-young-adults/kids-and-parents/.
