Join Thrive Together for a special presentation with Dr. Lindsay Mohney as she discusses the important connection between sleep and brain injury recovery.

Sleep problems are common after a brain injury and can affect many areas of daily life, including energy, concentration, memory, mood, and overall well-being. Quality sleep can also play an important role in supporting the brain and body throughout the recovery process.

During this presentation, Dr. Mohney will explore how brain injury can affect sleep, why healthy sleep is important during recovery, common sleep challenges individuals may experience, and strategies that may help promote better rest.

Dr. Mohney is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in Brain Injury Medicine. Her clinical area of interest includes spasticity management and acquired brain injury.

đź’ś September is Su***de Prevention Month

Sometimes, knowing what to say—or simply recognizing when someone may be struggling—can make a meaningful difference.

Join us for Talk Saves Lives, an educational program from the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. Together, we’ll learn about su***de prevention, how to recognize warning signs, ways to start a caring conversation, and how to connect someone with help and hope.

You don’t have to be an expert to make a difference. By learning, listening, and looking out for one another, we can help build a community where no one has to struggle alone.

We’re proud to recognize BIASC Board Member Dr. Katie Davis for an incredible story that serves as an important reminder about the value of early detection and listening when something doesn’t seem right.

During a routine comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Davis identified and carefully monitored an abnormality that ultimately led to a patient being diagnosed with ocular melanoma. Because it was detected early, the patient was able to receive treatment while preserving his vision and quality of life.

For the brain injury community, this is also a good reminder that our overall health matters. Changes in vision and other symptoms can sometimes provide important clues about neurological and other health conditions, and regular medical care can make a difference.

We’re grateful to have professionals like Dr. Davis serving on the BIASC Board and advocating for the health of South Carolinians.

For South Carolinians across all 46 counties, BIASC helps provide that roadmap — connecting survivors, families, and caregivers with resources, referrals, support, and services.
