The historical legacy of Green Township and the rich railroading heritage of Sussex County are at a critical turning point, and we need your help to safeguard them. I am Keith with the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee. I am making this post and ask for your support in saving and fully restoring the historic Greendell Train Station.

Our vision is to transform this local icon into a vibrant museum highlighting the storied history of the Lackawanna Railroad alongside the deep agricultural roots of Sussex County. We are proud to be collaborating with renowned preservation architects Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects to ensure every detail of the restoration meets the highest standards, but securing future matching state and federal grants requires us to raise critical local funding now.

Every dollar you contribute directly fuels our progress and helps preserve this landmark for generations to come. Please consider making a donation today, and be sure to join us for our upcoming open house on October 31st at 6:00 PM to see our progress firsthand!

Chuck Walsh provides a detailed progress report on the restoration of the Lackawanna Cut-Off, traveling from east to west (Port Morris, NJ to Slateford, PA) to highlight key infrastructure projects and planning stages for 2026 and beyond.

In New Jersey - We visit Port Morris Jct., the station at Lake Hopatcong, the future grade crossing at County Road 602, the bridge at County Road 605, Roseville Tunnel, Andover Station, the US Route 206 under-crossing, Greendell Station, Mill Road in Frelinghuysen Township, and Blairstown Station.

Chuck also reflects on the North Jersey Rail Commuter Association's 40+ year history, specifically the 1989 bond issue that secured $25 million for the state to acquire the abandoned right-of-way, and the prevention of road crossings from from becoming obstructions on the right-of-way.

In Pennsylvania - We visit Slateford Jct. to look at the "fill-in" at Slateford Road and how critical it will be for Amtrak to gain access for restoration to the Delaware River Viaduct under a new roadway bridge. Chuck will also discuss future work that will be done on the railroad in Pennsylvania.

Finally, while many FRA Corridor ID projects are in the study or planning phases, Chuck emphasizes that construction is the ultimate goal, as well as keeping the community informed through these ongoing updates.

Buffalo Central Terminal, once a crown jewel of American rail travel, opened in 1929 as a grand Art Deco station serving the New York Central Railroad. At its peak, it handled over 200 trains and 10,000 passengers daily, a bustling gateway for travelers moving through upstate New York. Designed with soaring ceilings, marble floors, and elegant details, it symbolized the height of early 20th-century transportation.

But as train travel declined after World War II, the terminal fell into disuse. It officially closed in 1979 and has since stood mostly abandoned, an architectural time capsule.

In recent years, however, there’s been a push to restore and repurpose the structure, bringing new hope to one of Buffalo’s most iconic and hauntingly beautiful landmarks.
