Citizens Academy โ€“ Week 3

Our Citizens Academy participants had hands on Rescue & Vehicle Extrication this week!

Our firefighters started the evening by introducing the specialized rescue tools used during vehicle accidents and explaining how crews stabilize a vehicle, gain access to patients, and safely perform an extrication.

Then it was time for the participants to get to work! With our firefighters alongside them, every participant had the opportunity to operate the extrication tools, using cutters and spreaders to cut into and dismantle the vehicle.
The sun may have gone down, but the training kept going! Participants worked throughout the extrication and got a firsthand look at the teamwork, equipment, and techniques involved in a vehicle rescue with our firefighters.

Thank you to everyone who participated and to our crews for making another great night of Citizens Academy possible!
