Today is National First Responders Day, a time to honor the brave men and women who protect our community during times of emergency and crisis. From police officers and firefighters to EMTs and dispatchers, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who answers the call to keep Columbia safe, healthy and resilient.

When emergency situations strike, our crews are right beside them. Under Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5 (HSPD-5) issued in 2003, public works personnel are officially recognized as first responders. Whether clearing road debris after a severe storm, clearing snow so emergency vehicles can travel safely or setting up traffic control barricades at incident scenes, Columbia Public Works is proud to serve on the front lines. You will see this commitment reflected in our official Public Works First Responder logo on our fleet vehicles!

Thank you to all first responders across CoMo for your service. 🚒🚑🚓🚜
