It’s a holiday weekend! We want everyone to have a fun and safe visit to Worthington!

🕕ARRIVE EARLY—parking lots fill quickly on weekends and holidays. Plan to get here early to get a parking spot. Once lots are full, they will be closed until parking becomes available!

👩‍👩‍👧‍👧ARRIVE TOGETHER—carpooling is highly recommended. Parking is limited. If a member of your party arrives late, they may not be able to get in!

🍎ARRIVE PREPARED—bring everything you need with you for the day, including water and snacks. Parking lots will be closed once they fill up. If you leave to get food, drinks, etc. you may not be able to reenter the park!

🗑CARRY-IN/CARRY-OUT! Worthington is a Carry-in/Carry-out park, we do not provide garbage cans. If you bring it into the park, bring it out with you when you leave! Discarded food and trash can attract and harm wildlife and ruins the experience for other visitors. Practice principles and help keep our park beautiful!

🚫🏊‍♀️SWIMMING—is not permitted at Worthington. Stay on the trails, do not wade or swim in creeks or streams.

⛺CAMPING. The campground is booked this weekend! (You may check our reservation website for potential cancellations: camping.nj.gov).
If you’re camping with us this weekend:
🐻BEARS are in the area! Keep a clean campsite. Dispose of trash at the dumpster by the office, or keep it in your car. Keep all food and scented items (soap, deodorant etc.) in your car.
🤫Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM. If you have issues with loud or rowdy neighbors call NJ State Park Police at 877-927-6337 right away! Do not wait until morning to report it.

🚫🍷 🚭ALCOHOL & SMOKING/VAPING are PROHIBITED

🥾HIKING—maps are available at the office, or you can stop by our trail stewards at the Dunnfield Creek parking area! It's always best to know what trail you are going to hike and about how long the hike will take.

The Fall Foliage Report is back!! 🍁

Pardon the clouds, we haven't seen the sun in a while! We are getting some yellow color on the maple and cottonwood trees. Tulip trees are only just starting to change. Meanwhile the river birch and black walnuts are well on their way to loosing their leaves as they are some of the earliest species to react to the shortening day-length.

Stay tuned for the next report! 🍂

Did you know Worthington State Forest is home to two state natural areas? One of these is the Dunnfield Creek Natural Area.

The Dunnfield Creek Trail starts from the Dunnfield parking lot off Route 80 and follows the creek upstream to its start atop the Kittatinny Ridge. The creek descends over 1,000 ft to join the Delaware River. After a good rain, many cascades can be seen along this trail. Dunnfield Creek is also a designated native trout stream (catch & release only). The trail is lined with hemlock, maple, and birch trees. You’ll also find rhododendron at the lower elevations and mountain laurel up high.

Because Dunnfield is a sensitive natural area, there is no swimming or wading allowed in the creek! This is to protect both visitor safety and the native brook trout population in the creek. Please be respectful and help us preserve this beautiful woodland for generations to come! Thank you! 🌿

A beautiful weekend ahead!

We got some much needed rain over the last few days! The Delaware River is running higher than normal at about 8.5 ft. The water is quite muddy.

We want to make everyone aware that wearing a life jacket is MANDATORY for EVERYONE, adults and children, when the river is over 8 ft.

Stay safe. Stay afloat. Wear your life jacket! 🦺

⚠️Air quality alert issued for NJ⚠️

Smoke from wildfires in Minnesota and Canada continues to affect air quality across New Jersey today, Friday, July 17th. If you are in a sensitive group, you may want to limit outdoor activity.

The Worthington campground is open and operating. However, we understand if you would like to change the dates of your camping reservation due to the poor air quality. The office is open until 8 pm tonight to make changes. 908-841-9575.

Currently there are no restrictions on campfires. All campfires must be kept in the fire ring on your campsite. Do not leave a campfire unattended. You can check the New Jersey Forest Fire Service dashboard any time for updates on campfire restrictions here: https://dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/wildfire/conditions-restrictions-dashboard/
