Weddings Will Go On Despite Municipal Court Closure.
Ceremonies move to neighboring buildings in the Franklin County Government Complex Sept. 24–25.
COLUMBUS — Couples scheduled to marry at the Franklin County Municipal Court this week will still say "I do" as planned, just a few steps from where they expected.
The Municipal Court closed Wednesday, Sept. 23, because of emergency building maintenance issues and will remain closed through Friday, Sept. 25. The courthouse, at 375 S. High St., is part of the Franklin County Government Complex, which also includes the Dorrian Building at 369 S. High St. and the Government Tower at 373 S. High St. Neither of those buildings is affected, and both remain open.
Weddings will be held at the following locations:
Thursday, Sept. 24: First-floor conference room of the Dorrian Building, 369 S. High St., officiated by Municipal Court Judge Bill Hedrick.
Friday, Sept. 25: Courtroom A of the Franklin County Probate Court, 23rd floor of the Government Tower, 373 S. High St., officiated by Municipal Court Judge Jim O'Grady.
All ceremony times remain unchanged. Couples with questions about their scheduled wedding may call 614-645-8705.
The Municipal Court judges said a building problem was not going to stand between these couples and their wedding day. Judge O'Grady said the judges moved quickly to find new space and are grateful to the Franklin County Probate Court and the Franklin County Board of Commissioners for stepping in to help.
"Weddings are such a meaningful moment in any family's journey," said Kelly Green, Chief Magistrate of the Franklin County Probate Court. "We're thrilled to collaborate with our colleagues at Municipal Court and provide a welcoming space for couples to celebrate as planned. We wish each couple a lifetime of happiness."
Green noted that the marriage license process is not affected by the closure. Couples who still need a license should first complete an application online on the Probate Court website, then apply in person at the Probate Court on the 23rd floor of the Government Tower with a photo ID. Applicants who have been divorced or had a marriage annulled must also bring a certified copy of the decree and its case number. At least one applicant must live in Franklin County, unless neither applicant lives in Ohio.
The only public entrance to all three buildings in the Government Complex is at 373 S. High St., just north of Fulton St.
