Connection Creates Belonging

A healthy workplace is about more than whether employees feel like they are part of a team.

Belonging grows when people feel respected, understand how their work contributes to the mission, have opportunities to collaborate, and know their contributions are valued.

For human services organizations, that connection extends beyond the workplace. Strong relationships with schools, healthcare providers, nonprofits, government agencies, advocacy organizations, and other community partners can strengthen collaboration and improve service coordination.

And when employees can see how their daily work contributes to meaningful outcomes for individuals, families, and communities, purpose becomes an important part of organizational wellness.

New Research on Intrafamilial Child Torture

Intrafamilial child torture (ICT) is an extreme form of child maltreatment associated with high rates of child fatality, yet it remains significantly under-researched and poorly understood.

A recent study surveyed 253 professionals who work to identify and address child abuse. Nearly 90% endorsed a proposed broad conceptual definition of ICT, and respondents strongly recognized key ICT red flags.

Importantly, professionals also indicated that ICT cases require a different level of intervention than typical child maltreatment cases.

A shared conceptual framework and recognition of red flags may help professionals identify these cases earlier and ensure they receive appropriate assessment and intervention.
