Yesterday, over 1,000 protesters came to the Statehouse to oppose right-wing policies at the state and federal levels. Rain or shine, I’ll always stand with advocates calling for policies that create ladders of opportunity and ensure people are not just surviving, but thriving.

SPECIAL EVENT: In honor of Black History Month, my colleague Senator Reynolds and I are hosting a special viewing of “The Six Triple Eight: Women’s Army Corps Battalion” Documentary on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The Six Triple Eight was an all-black, all-female battalion that served overseas during World War II. The Battalion was the only unit made up of women of color within the Women’s Army Corps to do so. They were tasked with delivering mail to our soldiers on the front lines. At the time, there was an estimated backlog of 17 million parcels of mail that had not been delivered. Important military letters had been delayed, leading to miscommunication among military leaders, and our soldiers had spent several months fighting the N**i army without having heard from their friends and family. The 6888th Battalion was given six months to complete their task, but they worked day and night, completing their first mission in only three months.
Their efforts helped solve a serious problem during a critical time for the Allied powers and was vital to the defeat of the N**is. Upon returning home from the war, the women were never given public recognition for their monumental service. This event will acknowledge their extraordinary sacrifices and dedication while affirming our collective commitment to preserving their place in history.

We’ve taken a critical first step toward actionable solutions to ensure every Ohioan has access to safe, affordable housing.

Today, we remember the vicious attacks and loss of innocent lives on 9/11/2001 and the immense heroism displayed throughout our great nation.
Last week, I had the opportunity to honor the victims and first responders by leading a prayer and planting flags at the Statehouse.

60 years ago this weekend, approximately 250,000 people joined Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. As we remember this monumental occasion and reflect on its legacy today, let us recommit ourselves to the work of these marchers. To quote Dr. King, “We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”
