The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus is the oldest legislative Black caucus in the nation, leading the fight for justice, equity, and opportunity by championing policies that uplift Black Ohioans and strengthen communities across our state. Since 1967 the members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus have been on the front-lines, fully committed to fighting for issues important to African Americans in Ohio. The caucus is dedicated to reforming the criminal justice system, ensuring the fundamental right to vote is not infringed upon, securing a fair playing field for African Americans seeking good-paying jobs, addressing health disparities and strengthening the education system to help ensure a bright future for the next generation of African American/ black leaders here in Ohio. Furthermore, we strive to always be a voice and conscious in the legislature not just for Black Ohioans but all minorities in Ohio, while cultivating a culture that will create strong leadership in the black community and all Ohio in the years to come.

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus believes our communities deserve to be informed, engaged, and empowered. Our Knock for Justice Judicial Candidate Canvass Launch in Toledo put that commitment into action! ⚖️

We were honored to be joined by Ohio Supreme Court Justice Jennifer Brunner running for re-election and Judge Myron C. Duhart, running for re-election to the Sixth District Court of Appeals. Their re-elections are critical to ensuring fairness and transparency in our courts.

Thank you to our Toledo Delegation, including State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson and State Representative Erika White, for hosting us in their region! And to OLBC Member State Representative Munira Abdullahi: thank you for making that 2 1/2 hour drive to stand with us! 🙏🏾

To our local elected officials, community members, organizers, Divine Nine organizations, friends, and family, thank you for showing up and helping us do the work!

OLBC will continue to show up in communities across Ohio because civic engagement is not a one-day event. It is a commitment we have to our people. ✊🏾

📍TOLEDO, this Wednesday OLBC and members of the community will be knocking doors to share the importance of our Judicial candidates as we prepare to vote November 3rd! We will be joined by the Honorable Myron C. Duhart, Justice Jennifer Brunner, & Judge Marilyn Zayas. ⚖️

Being a Judge or Justice is an elected position. Look for the judge with a long-standing record in the legal community as well as the greater community, and the integrity to match. Look for fairness, or at least the certainty that anyone who comes into that courtroom knows “they’ll be heard.”

OLBC is proud to stand behind these candidates who are committed to fairness and justice for all Ohioans.

BLACK MEN, YOUR POWER IS NEEDED. 🗳️✊🏾

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation estimates that approximately 310,000 Black men did not vote in Ohio’s 2022 midterm election. That is a powerful reminder of what is at stake when participation falls short.

You do not have to agree with every candidate to understand that your voice deserves to be heard. You do not have to wait for a presidential election year to get engaged.

Your vote is one way to hold leadership accountable. Your participation is part of building the Ohio we deserve.

Black men, let’s show up. Let’s get informed. Let’s vote early. ✊🏿🗳️

There’s nothing like Homecoming at Central State! 💛❤️

OLBC was proud to celebrate with the Marauder family and show our continued support for Central State University, Ohio’s only public Historically Black University. For members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, uplifting Central State is especially important because we understand the critical role HBCUs play in educating, developing, and preparing the next generation of Black leaders.

A special thank you to the Delta Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for welcoming OLBC and hosting us in this year’s Homecoming Parade! 🤙🏾

It was also great to have Joyce Beatty welcome us to her Alma mater with Dr. Amy Acton, Sherrod Brown, Annette Blackwell For Auditor, and Maryland Governor Wes Moore alongside us!

Homecoming is about more than coming back. It’s about honoring our history, investing in the institutions that have invested in us, and making sure they remain strong for generations to come.

Happy Homecoming, Marauders!

❤️💛
