💜 “I’m still here for you.”

When someone tells you they’re experiencing abuse, that first conversation matters. So does the support you offer afterward.

A safe check-in. Listening without judgment. Offering a ride or help with groceries. Respecting their privacy and their decisions—even when their plans change.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our article, “After They Tell You: Supporting a Survivor Beyond the First Conversation,” explores how friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers can offer steady support without adding pressure.

You don’t need all the answers to make a difference. Sometimes, it starts with reminding someone they haven’t been forgotten.

“They never hit me.”

You don’t need visible injuries for what you’re experiencing to matter. Abuse can include intimidation, humiliation, threats, sexual coercion, financial control, and isolation—even when there has never been hitting.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Steps to Hope is helping bring these less visible forms of abuse into the conversation. Our article, “They Never Hit Me”: Understanding Abuse Without Physical Violence, explores how patterns of fear and control differ from ordinary disagreements—and why you deserve support, even if you’re unsure what to call your experience.

You don’t have to have everything figured out to ask for help. 💜

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

This October, let’s start the conversation about domestic violence and how we can work together to create a safer, more supportive community.

Does your church, civic group, community organization, school, workplace, or club have an upcoming meeting or gathering? We would love the opportunity to speak with your group!

A Steps to Hope presentation can cover topics such as:
- Understanding domestic violence
- Warning signs of unhealthy relationships
- How to support someone experiencing abuse
- Available community resources
- The services and programs provided by Steps to Hope

Your group can help make a difference by learning, sharing, and spreading awareness.

📞 To schedule a presentation, call 828-894-2340
or email 📧 [email protected]

Help us shine a light on domestic violence this October. 💜
