The brigade provides command and control for four Ohio-based battalions. These subordinate units are the 1st Battalion, 174th ADA, headquartered in Woodlawn; the 2-174th ADA, headquartered in McConnelsville; the 1-145th Armor Battalion out of Stow; and the 2-107th Cavalry Squadron in Hamilton. This past weekend we recognized and thank CPT Craig Bentley for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service during his command of HHB 174 ADA BDE. For his commitment to the mission, Soldiers, and unit, he was awarded the Army Commendation medal by COL Evilsizo.
At the same time, we proudly welcome Captain Hannah Jurcisin as the incoming Battery Commander. We look forward to her leadership and the continued success of HHB under her

Col. Charles C. Springer Jr. retires from the Ohio Army National Guard during a ceremony at the Clarence E. Miller Armory in McConnelsville, Ohio, on April 18th, 2026. With Springer's family present, the Assistant Adjutant General for the Ohio Army National Guard, Col. π ON THIS DAY//APRIL 19, 1854: The 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is organized in Cincinnati as the Guthrie Greys. During the Civil War, the Greys formed the nucleus of the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry that fought at Shiloh, Stones River and Chickamauga. As the 147th Infantry in World War II, the regiment fought in the Pacific and was engaged in operations on Iwo Jima. Today, the regiment has two active battalions, which are among the most heavily mobilized units in the Ohio National Guard with multiple mobilizations, both home and abroad, since 2001. In this 2005 poto, Lt. Col. Scott Baldy, commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defesnse Artillery, salutes the reviewing officer as he leads the battalion in a pass in review ceremony at Camp Grayling, Mich. in July 2005. The was the first annual training of the unit after it was converted from the 1st Battalion, 147th Armor. Concurrently, the 147th Armor and 174th Air Defense Artillery were merged into a single regiment.

π ON THIS DAY//APRIL 19, 1900: Battery C, 2d Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is organized in Marietta as Company B, 7th Separate Infantry Battalion. As an element of the 37th Division in World War I, the unit earned credit for participation in the Lorraine campaign as Company F, 112th Ammunition Train. The battery converted to air defense artillery in 1959 and consolidated with elements in Caldwell in 1990. The battery also earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation during its 2017-2018 mobilization to central and southwest Asia. This 1966 photo shows Battery C, 2d Battalion, 174th Artillery, at Camp Perry, Ohio during annual training.

π ON THIS DAY//APRIL 10, 2008: Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade is organized in Columbus. Since its organization the unit has seen a steady state of mobilizations that covers a variety of assignments in and out of the air defense mission. π ON THIS DAY//MARCH 29, 1954: Battery C, 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is constituted as Howitzer Company, 3d Battalion, 107th Armored Cavalry. Since its formation the unit has served as a cavalry, engineer, infantry, and armor unit before converting to air defense artillery in 2005. In this circa 1985 photo, members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry practice a riot formation as part of their yearly civil disturbance training. The unit was organized under this designation from 1984 to 1992.

π ON THIS DAY//MARCH 18, 1910: Battery B, 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is organized in Hamilton, Ohio as Company M, 1st Infantry Regiment. The battery has earned credit for participation in World War I, World War II and the War on Terrorism. In this July 1954 photo, Maj. Herman C. Gill, right, commander of the 2d Battalion, 147th Infantry, presents the guidon of Company E, 147th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division to 2d Lt. Andrew G. Skalkos during 37th Infantry Division Day ceremonies at Camp Perry. Ohio. The unit was organized under this designation from 1947 to 1954.
