The UN General Assembly resolution 2142 adopted on 26 October 1966, proclaimed March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to be commemorated annually. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the Day in 1966 which signifies the struggle to end the policy of apartheid in South Africa, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.

It's Legislative Advocacy Day! The mission of LAD is to create an opportunity for counselors to engage in legislative advocacy, leadership, and professional identity development through intentional training and immersive experiences. LAD will empower & equip counselors to communicate with their Legislators about current issues and then send them to the Statehouse for a face to face meeting the same day. Our favorite day of the year π Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability. What can you do to advance this peaceful and just agenda?

Yesterday was National Freedom Day and the beginning of Black History Month! On February 1st in 1865, President Abraham Lincoln signed the proposed 13th Amendment to be ratified by the states- "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction" Let Freedom Ring! π
