We honor the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as well as the U.S. service members who served during the ensuing War on Terrorism to defend the homeland. That day significantly changed the role of the National Guard and how it is utilized as part of the nation’s defense. More than 27,000 Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have deployed to over 36 different countries, including all seven continents, since 9/11.

SPC Rory Cotter has a BA in International Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He wanted to continue his career in the military to help serve in humanitarian missions as well as foreign affairs.

I joined the National Guard to learn new things and gain new experiences while having the chance to serve my state and country.

I would recommend the National Guard to anyone who wishes to challenge and better themselves. And to anyone who is looking for some adventure.

I was the distinguished honor graduate at 68W AIT for earning the highest overall GPA and for passing each exam and evaluation on my first attempt.

Reasons for joining: I wanted to be the first in my family to join the army and be an example for my 👯‍♀️. Also the benefits are really good.
Why I would recommend: I believe you should join because the army brings you around different people, makes you experience new things, makes you stronger and have the mental thinking of never giving up. I thought I was a very lazy person but when I got the highest ACFT score for females I was very proud of myself, the army shaped me into being a fit and a strong person. I believe anybody can do it too.

Why would you recommend others to join the Oharng: it’s great choice when you don’t really know what you want to do in life.

I scored 570 and maxed out 4 out of the 6 on my acft and when I first join I ran my 2 mile in 16 min now I max it out everytime.
