Move Over Day is a nationwide reminder for drivers to slow down and move over when approaching roadside vehicles with flashing lights, hazard signs, or warning devices. The Move Over Law applies to vehicles with flashing lights of any color, including law enforcement officers, emergency responders, road construction, maintenance vehicles, utility crews and tow trucks.

Thank you for doing your part to protect the people who work every day to keep our roads safe.

The Frank Road, Brown Road, and Hardy Parkway Street project is entering its final phases, with construction progressing toward completion. Hardy Parkway Street is scheduled to reopen on October 9, weather permitting. Thank you for your patience as work continues.

SYLVANIA/BANCROFT BRIDGE UPDATES
We are hopeful we will have both bridges on Sylvania Ave and Bancroft St reopened tomorrow morning. The final task is striping the decks and short asphalt approaches on each side and this work cannot be done while the ground is wet. Unfortunately, on and off rain today threw a wrench into that work for today.

We know there is rain in the forecast for the next two days, but we are hoping tomorrow morning, there's a dry opening to get this work completed and both roads reopened to drivers. You can expect a post from us as soon as that work is complete.

What do you enjoy most about NACE?
What I enjoy most about NACE is the opportunity to connect with other county engineers and public works professionals from across the country. Many of us face similar challenges, and NACE provides a great opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and bring practical solutions back to our own communities.

What sparked your interest in civil engineering?
I’ve always enjoyed understanding how things are built and solving practical problems. Civil engineering stood out to me because the work has a direct and lasting impact on people’s everyday lives. Roads, bridges, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure are things people depend on every day, and I liked the idea of building and maintaining something that serves an entire community.

What is the most rewarding project you've worked on, and why?
The most rewarding projects are the ones where you can clearly see the difference between where you started and where you finished. Whether it is replacing a bridge, improving a roadway, or solving a long-standing drainage problem, it is rewarding to take a project from an identified need through design and construction and ultimately deliver an improvement that will serve the public for years to come.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about managing a large-scale project?
Plan ahead, communicate often, and address problems early. Large projects rarely go exactly according to plan, so good project management is not about avoiding every problem—it is about identifying issues early, communicating clearly with everyone involved, and making timely decisions that keep the project moving forward.
