Chair Mateen had the amazing opportunity to volunteer at THREE, a Women’s Respite center right here on the Westside. If you know any women who would benefit from having a safe space to access resources, clothes, food, hygiene products, and just a place to rest — this is the place!!! Definitely encourage those who are interested in giving donations and taking time to volunteer 🤍 https://como-cares.org/drop-in-centers -5432-4156-a19f-1cb9eeee954f

Commissioner Smith and Hilltop Arts Collective Vice President Emily Smith attended the opening of “Mindscapes: Art as Sactuary” at the Fresh A.I.R. Gallery in Downtown Columbus where pieces by emerging artists from all around the city are on display. The Mindscapes project is a collaboration between the Hilltop Arts Collective, Fresh A.I.R. Gallery, local artists Kelli Trinoskey and Dan Gerdeman, and mental health professional Elizabeth Mintun. The Hilltop Kiwanis provided part of the funds for the collaboration and a workshop day with area high school and college students was held at the Mid Ohio Farm on the Hilltop.

Due to recent resignations, we have two open seats. Interested candidates should contact a sitting commissioner to be nominated during the June full commission meeting. Candidates must be Hilltop residents, 18 or older, and attend the meeting on 6/2/26. The appointed terms will expire 12/31/28.

Update: Commissioner Valentine has resigned. We hope to move forward in advocating for the Greater Hilltop and taking care of our neighbors. Thank you all for your support during this time.

To all of our neighbors, friends, and peers of the Greater Hilltop Area
I, the Chair, am fully aware of the remarks and abusive language used by one of our sitting commissioners. The Greater Hilltop is a neighborhood boasting with diverse people and we’ve held on for all of these years through love, taking care of each other, and deep compassion. It has been my mission that through our work here on the commission, we continue to do so. With that being said, we will let it be very known, that any language, behavior, and conduct that opposes itself to that will be reviewed, accounted for, and deeply rejected by this commission and this neighborhood of people.
We will continue to be a place of safety, connection, mutual aide, and absolutely intolerable to racism, sexism, and any other form of discrimination. That is my word.
Yours in the fight,
Chairperson Shavonne Mateen
