More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.
On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.
Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion.
A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.
Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Reflection 🇺🇸
Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to others remind us of the true cost of freedom.
At The Salvation Army, we are grateful for those who served—and we are equally committed to serving those who continue to carry the weight of that sacrifice, including veterans, military families, and our community members in need.
As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day, may we take a moment to reflect, give thanks, and extend compassion to those around us.

The Salvation Army Thrift Store Columbus, GA represents the heart of our ministry: to serve others in their time of need.
This National Salvation Army Week, we’re so grateful for our thoughtful manger Joan Barnes and team, who make the mission possible by providing quality, gently-used clothing, furniture and other items to the community at bargain prices.
But this is so much more than just a thrift store. There is a multifaceted mission behind the scenes greatly impacting the community.
The proceeds generated from these sales go to support the social service programs like clothing vouchers, skills training, utility assistance as well as affordable housing and childcare.
Every donation and every purchase makes a life-changing difference for families in the grip of addiction or poverty.
Thank you to all who have given to, shopped with and supported this initiative over the years, especially our The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Columbus, GA who regularly give of their time, talent and treasure to offer a helping hand to the staff and raise awareness of the store’s importance.
Help make lives better by dropping off your gently used items or shopping with us:
