๐จ PREVENTING SCAMS: TIP OF THE WEEK ๐จ
Online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and people of any age, especially teens are often targeted through social media, messaging apps, and online gaming platforms.
Sextortion occurs when someone threatens to share private or explicit images or videos to pressure, threaten, or demand money from another person. Scammers may use fake profiles, manipulation, or even AI-generated images to target victims.
โ Parents and guardians: Take time to talk with your teens about online safety and remind them that they can come to you without fear of judgment if something happens.
If you or someone you know is being threatened online, don't send money or respond to demands. Save the messages, report the account, and reach out to a trusted adult or law enforcement for help.
๐ Stay informed. Stay alert. Stay safe.
