During this PUBLIC POWER MONTH, we want to share Harold Kramer's story. Kramer served as Loupโ€™s first general manager. He was instrumental in bringing the Loup River Public Power District project to fruition and creating the nation's only all public power state. He rose to prominence on the national stage and helped organize the American Public Power Association. Visit our blog to learn more about this fascinating story.

In 1941, the Columbus Telegram called Harold Kramer the โ€œguiding light and guardian of the Loup River Public Power District.โ€

Dredge Operator John Fritzges captured a beautiful morning at the Genoa Headworks. This is the decanter pond north of the shop. As the operators dredge the settling basin, water is pumped into the pond. The sand settles there before the water returns to the Loup River.

President Trump is in Nebraska today and on this same date in 1959, a future president was in Nebraska and toured Loup's Columbus Powerhouse. Sen. John F. Kennedy was in Columbus for 3 hours as part of his tour across Nebraska. The Democratic presidential hopeful was the guest of honor at a luncheon at the Elks Country Club. In addition to the powerhouse, Kennedy stopped at the Berchtold farm to witness a large midwest feeding operation. He then toured Behlen Manufacturing and Dale Products.
